You should be able to go directly to the DMV and get them the same you do here in Alabama. You might try checking out the webpage: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/
Congrats on getting out of this backwards state! Can I come live with you in CA? I don't need much room. I cook, clean and do windows. My dog knows tricks! He doesn't eat much, an arm, leg with some old shoes for seasoning.

Where I live, the temp. tags are good for 30 days. You receive your permanent tags right there at the DMV as soon as you pay your taxes, unless you are ordering vanity plates. I don't know how long they take.
I would contact your new location and ask them what will be required.

in Oregon, I ordered disabled veteran license plates about September 11, it has been 5 weeks, my temporary expire today and they refused to extend the temporary sticker.. there is nothing I can do because gov agencies will not reason, and if you lose your mind they will have you arrested trying to reason. We have a P.O. Box. so there is no way they could have been stolen. Is there anyone that can help? probably not.. calling them, they only tell me they were mailed out..

interior the state wherein I stay, 2 plates are additionally required, despite the fact that as you observed on your question, a pragmatic rationalization related to the "lost" plate in maximum circumstances maximum suitable merits a warning and the requirement to later produce information which you have re-ordered a clean one or placed and adjusted the classic one. $123 stunning is by using and massive in elementary terms a reflection of the demanding financial circumstances and an attempt to enhance their coffers.
