I have a 1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville, and the light just came on today saying "Service Soon" I want to know what does that mean, is it just a tune up? Or just needs some fluids? I'm asking now before I go to a mechanic so I can have some idea what I'm getting myself into.

Me and the car in front of me make the same lane change. However, as soon as the driver in front of me changes lanes, they realize the car in front of them is stopped. They slam on their brakes and hits the car in front of them lightly, causing no damage. I then rear end the car that hit the first guy. Am I at fault for following too closely? Would the police take into consideration the more sudden stop a collision creates? Perhaps that 3 or 4 inches further they would have traveled by just hitting the brakes and not hitting something would have meant I didn't hit them at all.

Is it the timing belt? I can turn the key and all my lights come on, but it doesn't start. If I try it again.. it'll work on the 2nd or 3rd time.

My fiance's car totally went caput today and is unfixable per the mechanic (or it would have needed a $2300 replacement engine). The car is a 96 toyota tercel and hasn't always been in the best condition. He is in college full time and works a part time job at a theatre for near minimum wage. Should he take out some money ($2000, 3000?) from his extra school loans that he was offered and put it down on a car? Say he was to get a toyota yaris. Since he doesn't make very much money would they still loan that money to him and possibly make about $150 payments each month for 60 months with 5.9%?

Does that sound feasible to anyone. This wouldn't be so bad if his financial situation wasn't in such a bind but if anyone has been through the same situation please give me some ideas as to what you did.

My 1999 Ford Taurus is having transmission problems. We took the car in for a transmission service and the shop overfilled the transmission fluid. Way overfilled it. My mother took it in and didn't save any of the paperwork on it. It wouldn't shift much at all, but I did get the fluid level down where it needed to be, and it would work, but had a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I added some transmission additive and readjusted the fluid again, and it still shifted from 1st to 2nd, but did so with some slippage. After a couple hundred miles, now it won't go unless you rev up the motor to 3000 to 4000 rmps. I know that it isn't good to do that, so I have parked the car and need to find out what is really wrong. If anyone out there has any ideas, or knowledge, please let me know. I would really like to see if I can repair it myself. It has about 135,000 miles on it. The service engine light is on, and I assume that it has to do with the transmission. HELP!

My nissan pickup had 2 large rust holes in the frame when i purchased it, has now been fixed, my parents nissan pathfinder had several rust holes in the frame at differents spots. I have heard many horrer storys mostly about the pathfinders hitting a bump or a ditch too hard and completely falling apart cause of this. My pickup also has a lot of rust on the body ( saw a lot of miles in an area of PA. that sees a lot of snow) my mechanic says all of these problems are because nissan used cheap paint. Ive also heard the frame problems are cause because they didnt allow the proper holes for moisture and dirt to come out of the frame. Is this all true and do the 98-00 model nissan suvs and the frontier continue this trend?

According to the BBC, every 3 seconds someone puts petrol into a diesel car. The costs to fix can range into hundreds of pounds - as well as a great deal of embarrassment!
Whilst the diesel pump nozzle is too big to go into the petrol hole on a car, the petrol nozzle can easily go into the diesel hole.
I had an idea for a simple, cheap attachment that might solve the problem. I think it can be easily made for different cars and cost pennies.
Think it could work? If so, then how do I get it made/sold/etc.?

Here is the idea:

I'm sure there's a complicated formula for it - but I just drove my uncle's 2008 Corvette (430hp stock at sea level). About how much would it run at in Colorado? Denver is at 5,280 feet, and the canyons I was driving in were between 7-9,000 feet. Is there an approximate percentage you loose with every 1000 ft it increases? Thanks!

I am a new rider and I like the cruiser style motorcycles. I've talked to sales people at the shops and some riders. Been getting mainly two options. 1. Get a small bike like Honda Rebel 250 and trade up once you get comfortable. 2. Or get a 500 or 650 any brand to learn.

Everyone says if you get a 250 you will get bored and want to trade up in a month or so depending on how much you ride. The 500 ~ 650 are small enough to learn but powerful enough to keep.

I plan on riding almost everyday around town to run errands, grab lunch at etc. I work from home so I do not have to commute to work. However when I go on sales calls I plan on driving my car.

Please help?! I am 5'9" 150 lbs

I have a 95 Grand Marquis...I recently found out the heater core is either bad or has a hole. I was told it is a big job, BUT i could cut the hose and cap it as a quick fix. I was told I would loose my heater, but everything will be find. So I have a couple questions. First, is this ok to do or a bad idea...are there any ramifications? Second, how would I do it, just clamp it or do I need to seal it? Also as it has got worse, the car started to over heat, is this a side effect of a bad heater core?

We have a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The side sliding doors are not automatic. Every once in a while both side sliding doors stick locked closed. Is there a trick to opening these. Eventually they give, I am not sure of what it is that triggers the lock. Does anyone have a trick for this?
