You want to report it so the company has it on file. You can tell them that you're only reporting it to have it on file but you're not looking to claim damages. You can always let your company know that you will probably not file for damages but want an appraisal to see how much the damages are. That if it's a substantial amount (over deductible) then you'll proceed with a claim.
Most companies will just keep it on file, or some may investigate and get statements but they will not take action unless either party attempts to claim damages or injury.
It varies from state to state for the window to report a loss. That way if the other operator tries to claim injury or damages by stating that you stopped short, you won't be responsible for a no report. Also if something happens with the car in the next few weeks, the claim is already on file so you won't have to set it up then or potentially be beyond the limit of days to claim damages.

I hope you at least got estimates for fixing the damage. If not, do that. His insurance company should be handling this with you anyway. Contact them. Otherwise, do you have his address or at least his plate number? Get the address from DMV, take him to small claims court. If he doesn't show up then, you can still get a default judgement against him.
But if it's REALLY MINOR, don't bother. It will most likely cost you more in time and aggravation than it will to just pay to fix it on your own.

If the other guy hit you, his insurance should be taking care of your repairs. Contact your insurance immediately and they will advise you what you need to do. Your dad is wrong (no offense) by telling you that getting insurance involved is not worth it. We all pay insurance premiums for auto coverage, take the time to put his insurance coverage to use for you by getting your car fixed. IT IS WORTH IT.

Assuming it's not your fault, involve your insurance, giving them what information you have. They will contact the other party and collect your damages. Since they are out no money, and the accident isn't your fault, it will not affect your rates.
Despite what your father says, having your car fixed certainly IS worth it.

It's different in different areas. If your dad says it's not worth it, i would believe him. You will be wasting a lot of time, and you will be making that ahole a bigger ahole. But it's your car, so you can do whatever you like, teach that ahole a lesson. :)

i'm so sorry. it rather is not your fault - injuries ensue all the time. you are able to not blame your self. save calling his family contributors to ascertain on him and ask them to permit him be attentive to which you're thinking approximately him. Ask the family contributors if there is something you're able to do for them at the same time as they're sitting on the well being midsection (convey them foodstuff, and so on..) i wish he gets greater acceptable quickly.
