I recently got some new rear brake pads on my 2000 Chevrolet Impala. I know the calipers and rotors are fine, but the second the brakes start getting hot, they really start to squeal....really loud. I took it back to the Car place and they looked at the brakes and said it was fine, "saying it might be some debris", and even upgraded the pads. But they are still squealing when heat starts to build. Does anyone know what this might be that is causing it.
Also I noticed if I give the brakes the same amount of brake from the time I start to the time I stop it limits the squealing. But if I try to give it more brake while stopping it will squeal. Also the brakes feel fine when I am on them its just the squealing is irratating...

This car is one of 215 made the first year they made the Grand National - it's a T-Type with less then 60,000 original miles - everything is original except the battery - It's very rare as there are only about 100 still owned. Unfortunately my husband doesn't know enough to give it the love it needs. Would like to sell it to a collector or someone that restores them but don't know how to find someone that would know what they are buying... if anyone has any suggestions they would be welcome... Thanks

Behind the front bumper there are metal panels that keep foreign material from flying up. Catalogues do not carry them, from past experience. Also loooking for the crome strip around the headlined. This is for a restoration project.

Help! We're stuck on vacation in a rental RV, and so far haven't found a garage to work on it yet.

The gas guage shows about 1/4 tank of gas, but neither the engine, nor the generator, which both run off of the unleaded gas tank will start. They turn over, but won't start.

We are in Vail, so relatively high altitude, and the temperature outside is probably between 70-85.

The temp guage reads normal on the engine, and the battery level is OK (but getting lower with our starting attempts).

I figure since both the generator and the engine won't start it must be related to the fuel and tank area, and not the engine & transmission, as those probably wouldn't affect the generator.

Any ideas to try or know any good mobile mechanics in the Vail area?

I heard urban legends that heating the intake fuel over 160 degrees F. Will double gas milage because heated fuel can vaporize more . Is this true and why or why not.

I have an 88 Camaro that the stereo was stolen out of before I bought the vehicle. I am thinking about putting a new stereo in it. I looked at the wires already in the dash, but it appears that the factory wiring harness was cutout when the stereo was stolen. Should i try to replace the wiring harness with something from the factory, or should I Just try to install the new stereo using barrel connectors and directly connect the stereo wires to the pre-existing wires?

I have a 2002 Beetle. I havent looked after it the way i intended so it has some scratches and a wee chip here and there. Apart from that and needing a new boot carpet it is fine. I have done less than 30,000 miles.

Hubby thinks we should stick to the original plan of putting it off the road for a while as we are getting a (nearly) new car and we still have his car. I think we should sell it privately and put the money towards buying the other nearly new car.

He thinks we can do it up in a few months and then sell it/trade it in but i think it will be worth less and less as time goes on no matter what the condition.

What does everyone think?

By the way, the other car we are buying is purely for use as a taxi! So we will use his car only for personal use.

I own a 86 pontiac fiero gt and jumped a ford 150. It took about 15 minutes to jump this guys car.
After his car started i drove home shut the car off and went to start mine again. There was power when i turned to key and the amps were reading 12 volts but when i turn the key to start everything went dead. I jumped my car from another car it started but when i shut it down and tried to restart after driving for 20 minutes again there was power but when i went to start it NOTHING. I then switched out the battery for a new one. Went to start it there was power but when i went to turn it over again no power at all.

Did i blow a fuseable link? I'm really at a loss right now.......

Thanks!

Live earth just reported the 10 second rule off of official studies. That means that you should turn off your car if your going to idle for more than 10 seconds. The Canadian government issues information on damaging your vehicle from idling when you are warming your car up. Site link is below. Study after study shows that idling damages cars, burns more gas, and is very damaging when warming up in cold weather. Why does everyone warm their car up then. Why have we all been told to warm them up?????

I recently heard that the Dodge viper was designed from the dodge stealth, witch is the mitsubishi 3000gt.
They said that the dodge took the 3000gt and did some minor adjustments to the exterior and came up with the stealth. Then they took the stealth(which is the 3000gt) and made the viper.
Is this true?
