Help! We're stuck on vacation in a rental RV, and so far haven't found a garage to work on it yet.

The gas guage shows about 1/4 tank of gas, but neither the engine, nor the generator, which both run off of the unleaded gas tank will start. They turn over, but won't start.

We are in Vail, so relatively high altitude, and the temperature outside is probably between 70-85.

The temp guage reads normal on the engine, and the battery level is OK (but getting lower with our starting attempts).

I figure since both the generator and the engine won't start it must be related to the fuel and tank area, and not the engine & transmission, as those probably wouldn't affect the generator.

Any ideas to try or know any good mobile mechanics in the Vail area?

Sounds like it could be the fuel pump, or a fuse to the fuel system. Or even a relay. Good luck.

This sounds like a dodge or chrystler product.... my guess is that its carboned up in the carborator....while it very well may turn over, your problem is either that it needs a new air cleaner, or the jets in the carborator are plugged, or a fuel lined is plugged. If you have tools..... un-do a gas line, and see if its getting gas to the carborator. If it is, then check your air cleaner ...open up the air cleaner housing,,,,and take out the filter, and look at the color !! If its black and uky,,,, that could b your problem. But trust me its simple to fix. Just get to the nearest auto shop, give them the name and filter numbers, they go by year. I think......
If that don't work, then try holding your foot clear down on the gas pedal, while turning it over. And don't let off the gas pedel.
If it wears down the battery, then u no its in the carborator. You can also ask someone to help ya, who has jumper cables. Do you have Triple A Auto Ins.?? If you call their toll free number,,,, they offer road side assistance, and a loner vehicle while your on vacation....
Good Luck Man. As for a mechanic, nope, only ben thru that country once, probably couldn't find anything there if I tried.
I live in Oregon.

i'd go ahead and go fill up the gas tank 1st. back when my gpa was still around and had a new rv, he had bad time figuring out why his generator wouldnt do anything until he filled up the tank. his was supposed to turn over too, even with an empty tank, and didnt. if it still doesnt fire up quickly and easily, then you may a real problem. and since you just bought it, take it back for repairs where you bought it ASAP.

The only common denominator is the fuel or fuel filter. There may also be an electric fuel pump. If there is an electric pump be sure it is working and has power.

some one at the RV park should be able to steer you to a good mechanic. They may even have advertisements posted on the grounds. good luck.

It's quite possible the gas gage is not working right.

Find some gas. Five gallons or so to add to the tank.
That's mostly to eleviate the possiblity you're just out of gas.
