Motorola spun off Freescale. Freescale was later taken private and I was sent a check buying my shares. How is the tax calculated on the money that I received?

I know she's supposed to mail it but I don't want her to have my new address, and my previous address was an apartment in a building she owned. It's too late to forward my mail, cuz Im sure she already mailed it, and It's not like I can pick it up. Any ideas. I'm in NY by the way.

I'm not sure if I have to files taxes this year, no income only grants and student loans. The amount is under 4,000 dollars. I'm a single mom of 1 but the father claims the EIC because I don't have income.

We are Colorado Residents but we lived in Wisconsin for 2 1/2 months this year. My husband made $8265.00 while we were in Wisconsin, and for some strange reason they did not take out any federal or state taxes?? Most of our money was made in the State of Colorado. We have 6 dependants including my husband.
How do we go about filing our taxes with Wisconsin and Colorado?

The baby was born in July 2006, but I still haven't received a social security number. The tax forms ask for SSNs for dependents, so can I still claim the baby? Or do I have to wait until I get a SSN to file?

I left my job 6 months ago and changed my mailing address from my home address to a PO box a few months ago. Will my W2 be forwarded or returned to the sender? I know certain types of mail are not forwardable. My ex-coworkers who also no longer work for the company received their W2s last week so I know they have been sent out but I have not yet received mine.
Thanks for info.

Usually my mother claims me and last year I ended up paying the IRS $400 that I did not have. I do not want that to happen again. I want to file on-line, and since I'm new I want to make sure I include everything so I get back what im entitled to if anything at all. I'm a full-time college student, live with one roomate, have my own car which I make the payments eachmonth, no kids, and I work part-time. I just need some ideas on the best way to go about filing and also a good site to file on. Free preferably but im willing to pay as well
