I am not the custodial parent, but my child support is current and a portion of it is factored in as daycare support (specified in the support calculation worksheet). Her attorney and accountant say because she pays for the daycare from her bank account, she can claim it every year as an expense, but the money is in her account because of my support payments. How can she claim daycare expenses for a dependent that I am allowed to claim this year (according to the agreement)? Any ideas?

I know when you reach the age of 70 1/2 in 2006, then you must make a required minimum distribution/withdrawal from the IRA by 4/1/07 and make an annual withdrawal after that. My questions are:

1) Can you calculate how much you need to withdraw for 2006 and 2007, and make one single withdrawal by 4/1/07 to satisfy the fact that you must make the first withdrawal for 2006 by this date, and a withdrawal for 2007?

2) If I purchase an annuity at a bank with my own money (non-employer related), do I need to follow this rule as well? What if I bought the annuity a few years ago and haven't reach the period for making withdrawals yet?

I sent in the tax form with turbo tax and it rejected it because I had the amount wrong for last years adjusted gross income.

Me and my wife filed joint, so the adjusted gross income is only 1 amount.

I put that amount down for me and also for my wife, but it came back as I need to correct just hers.

So what do I put, 0 for her

This is actually for a friend. His fathers and his name's are the same (ones the 1st the others the 2nd), his father can file online and I think he does. Every time he tries to, though, through turbotax it seems to be go through but in a week or so they say they can't process his 1040 because he's already filed. He's called the IRS and all they say is send in the paper 1040's (and that works).

What the problem is sending in the papers is so much slower and electronic filing is so much easier. Is there a way he can fix this and FINALLY file his taxes online?

We filed a joint return but my income was 0. And then I got this W-2 in the mail. It's for me from the last week of 2005. I forgot about it. Do I need to file an amended form or can I just forget about it? If I file it they will owe me.

I efiled last Saturday night and checked the "get my refund status" website. It said that I should expect my refund by February 13. Is that accurate?

For those of you who have already efiled and gotten your refund, how long did it take?

I always heard that when you make money as a freelancer that you dont get as much taxes deducted, and that it's usually a sweet deal. But recently, when I showed my W1090 to my accountant, he told me that I will have to pay $650 in taxes? How in God's name is a freelance check worth only $1200- end up in ME paying back the IRS $650 dollars? Has my accountant gone mad? Arent the tax rules extremely flex for freelance work?

Oh This past summer we had my sons last name changed and we took all the appropriate and legal mesures and now we have filed our taxes and they are being rejected due to the name and social security number not matching their records. He got a new social security card but same number so all records should be updated... so who do I contact? The e-file people said contact the SS administration so I did and got a bunch of automated crap and the website didnt help much either. I sent them an inquiry but no response yet.
Also to top it all off we need to do as much as possible online, we are military so though we live out of state we are still residents of Ohio so therefore file ohio taxes.

We plan to file Married Filing Separately, and I have read that if one spouse itemizes, so must the other. What does this mean? What if I don't have anything to itemize? We use TurboTax, so it determines if I itemize or not. Help!

Can the non-residential parent claim a child for the additional tax credit with the proper signed form from residential parent or as a line 6 exemption only?
Thanks. I've looked all over the irs' site and can't seem to find the answer to this. Maybe it's just too early and they aren't using plain enough English for me :P
