my comp.tells me that the same rule does not apply to the 1099's as the w-4's.That the 1099's don't have to be postmarked by jan.31st.

As long as you receive them by the end of February the company is not breaking any laws.

And some of the major finacial institutions (Morgan Stanley for one) have already received extensions and don't have to get the info out until March.

It really doesn't matter to the IRS when the 1099 is sent to individuals, as long the IRS copies are filed on time (Feb 28).

The deadline for depositing Form 1099-MISC (and W2) in the mail is 1/31/07. That doesn't mean it must be postmarked on 1/31, just have been dropped in the mail. In most cases, mail deposited on 1/31 would be postmarked on 1/31 or 2/1. You should allow a few days for delivery.

Yes all tax information from compainys has to be postmarked by the 31 st. I will let you know though I had two last year that were post marked after the 31's not sure what you do about it though.
