If your employer has changed your job location permanently, then your travel is a daily commute to your regular job and is not deductible. A permanent change is one that is expected to last for more than one year.

If the change in job location is considered a temporary assignment from your regular job, and it is expected that you will return to your old job at your old location, then you can deduct your mileage to your temporary assignment.

Unless you are an independent contractor, then you can not deduct normal commute. These are considered by the IRS as personal mileage. Now you can deduct moving expenses if you relocated for a job, but this is not what I gathered from your question.

NO. you cannot write off commute expenses to get to the job. you can write off the cost of moving to the new area if over 50 miles.
