My friend is disabled. She does not work. Her fiance paid more than half the cost of keeping up her home and she has lived with him for more than half year. I read that there is an exception if the person is disabled and has income from a sheltered workshop. Can he claim her as dependent for his HOH ( Head of Household ) filing status?

I am 17, live in OK.
I worked for a school a few months, nothing permanant.

I hear $5,000 is a well-known tax area of some sort, and I can say I haven't earned over that.

The school did take out Social Security and a couple other deals but I didn't pay much attention to those details.

Do I need to worry about filing anything?

My boyfriend and I have 1 baby together. I also have 2 older children of my own. For 2005 my boyfriend of 4 years lived with me for about 9 months. During that time i was out of work as I was on Maternity leave and I also took paid time off to breastfeed totalling 3 months. I still got disability checks but he helped out a lot with all 3 kids, his share of bills, half the rent and assistance with summer camp.

We're not together and he lives at home with his mother.
I offered to claim all 3 and to give him a percentage, but he feels entitled to claim the baby 100% because he needs a new car and I should only claim my two older children and we split nothing. Who is right/wrong? How so?

I was filing for my federal online and it asked if i needed to complete a state return. On my W2 theres a box that reads 'State Income Tax' and underneath that an amount which I paid out of my wages. I'm assuming I don't need to file for a return (which means getting my money back). As far as I know, it's MD's money. Should I just file for my federal? Then again, after I was done with my federal it said that I did not owe any taxes before it took me to the State Return option. What should I do?

I live in Virginia and received workman's comp for the few months I was out of work. When I received the check, there was no statement showing any taxes being deducted. Is this amount taxable?

On my W-2 form there's a box that reads
STATE INCOME TAX-240.69
which to my knowledge it means that the state of MD took 240 dollars off my wages, right? Now, when I was filing for my federal return online via Turbo Tax it was easy until I got to the state filing. Since I make a living based on tips I figured I would be owing the stated of MD $240. My hourly is only 2.50 plus tips and I always figured I wasn't making enough to cover taxes and that I would eventually owe the state of MD tax money. However, when I was doing this online it kept reading as state return. Does that mean I'm getting the money back? I don't think I should. Or should I jat least file my federal for now? What should I do? I'm soooooo confused!!!

I'm a full-time married student, and I only worked for about a month for the summer of 2006. My employer gave me the option to either take taxes out of my paycheck already, or I get 100% salary--I believe it's called a 1099--where I manually have to collect and pay the taxes in tax season, and I chose the SECOND option. I only earned about $1500, and people have been telling me that if I earn less than $3000 I don't need to file taxes. Also, my wife didn't work at all for 2006 since she's a full-time student too. So, is non-filed tax thing true, and if it's true or not, please explain =(. Thank you in advance.

what are some reasonable tax deductions for my situation. I am a 25 year old single male. I rent my condo, and I have a pretty good job. I had to take my taxes to get prepared, and turns out I have to pay. I am pretty much caught because i am not married, and I rent. I am looking to purchase either a house or a condo this year though. Will this purchase give me enough deductions next year so I dont have to pay. I dont necessarily care if I get money back, I just HATE paying.. Lol... I have also heard of claiming 1 dependant during the year so that they take more taxes out during the year?? Does this work?

Last year I had my own business for 2 months, my total expenses (including 48 cents a mile for business trips) were about $1800 and my total profit was about $400. I also had a job where I made about $9000 and although I havent recieved my W2 yet I expect that the total taken out of check for taxes etc. was about $1700. Can anyone give me a rough estimate on how much I will get back? I should mention that I am an 18 year old with no dependants and no one claiming me as a dependant. Thank you for your time.

My ex boyfriend owes me $5000 in child support. I do have court ordered child support. Problem is I never received his income tax return last year. The child support agency says there is no way to find out if the irs goofed and gave his refund to him instead of sending to the child support agency. I know there has to be some way of finding out. Please help.
