I was sent a letter from the IRS about 6 months back saying I still owe 200$ for unclaimed income for my 2004 taxes. I have filed for my 2006 taxes already, and am looking at a nice refund. Will the IRS hold this refund untill the other tax is paid, will they deduct what is owed and pay me the difference, or will i recive my refund with no problems??

I file my taxes on the tenth. They were accepted on the fifteenth and I was told that the money would be deposited in my bank account on the 26th. When I got this notification, I made arrangements to purchase a car on that date. Now, when I check my refund status it says I should get my money by the 30th.
I'm wondering if anyone who knows about this sort of thing could tell me if I should try to change the arrangements with the person I'm buying the car from to meet after the 30th, or do you think the money will still be deposited on the 26th? I don't want to have to call them to tell them the money might not be there that day unless I have to because I don't want them to get mad and sell the car to somebody else.

Last year, I bought a 2nd home, but my mom took out a Home Equity Loan on her home and used that money to purchase my 2nd home. I paid her monthly Interest payments, so she did not spend a penny of her own money. (the whole loan was just a temporary thing as I was waiting to sell my 1st home, so I paid off her Home Equity Loan after a few months once I sold my 1st home).

Can I deduct the interest on this Home Equity Loan?

I don't really understand what determines the amount you owe or the amount you will be refuned on your taxes...As long as you aren't reporting inacurrate tax information (claiming too many dependents, etc) for your employment, is it assured that you won't owe anything?

I just started working professionally in July of last year so I did not make a ton of money (about $10,500), plus I have student loan interest of upwards of around $765. So, my employment and my student loans are the only places I will be reporting tax info on. I claimed myself as a dependant.

Could you assume at the very least that I wouldn't owe anything? Just curious. Thanks.

When I instructed the sale to occur, I requested that they withhold 25% for Federal taxes. I know that I will probably have to pay State taxes, but that's not a big deal. How do I calculate my tax basis?

I have a family member who pays between $10,000 and $15,000 in federal income taxes each year and I was wondering how he/she could funnel money into my start-up business and get it back after filing taxes. Assuming they became a "member" of my business, which is registered as a domestic LLC under in the state of Georgia, please answer the above and the following.

What tax form must they file?
What purchases are 100% eligible and tax deductible?
Any other tax tricks?

Thanks!

My boyfriend and I have been taking care of my friend's 14month-old son for the past year. The baby lives in our home (for the most part) 6 days a week and spends about 1 night a week with his mother. Although she recieves cash-aid, food-stamps and wic (which provided the formula up to Nov.06) we pay for about 98% of his expsenses ourselves; including: rent along with up-keep expenses in the apt (utilities, repairs...), food, and everything else a baby needs. Problem is, there is no legal documentation of this only our spoken agreement with his mother. I'm pretty sure his mother dosen't file taxes. Is there anyway I can file him as my dependent? Maybe file as "head of household"? ( I do support more than 50% of our household expenses) Any forms I need to fill out? Do I have any options?
