It has been determined by my state employment insurance department that my employer had me clasified as a independent contractor when in fact I should have been clasified as an employee. This was for the entire year of 2006. Of course no taxes were taken out of my check and I fully expected to have to pay them. I no longer work for him. He called me and told me that he was just notified of the decision today and that it will cause a delay in me getting the correct paper work to file my taxes. He said I should apply for an extention until they are able to figure this out. Could anybody tell me how this will work out?

If you sell something you own on ebay, how do the tax's work?,does the IRS want to know about it ?,do you keep some sort of document or piece of paper for proof or something at the end of the year?,I am asking because i heard it always counts as income, and you need to pay tax's for income,

My dad payed for my school all of 2006, while sending me 500 spending money each month. I had been living with my fiance for the past year, and finally got married in November 06.
I feel that my father should claim me, for legally I had been his dependent, but then my husband should because he has been paying our rent ($1800 a month - living in Hawaii) and he has paid for my new mustang and other living expenses.

Can I choose who to claim me? Am I require to be claimed by my spouse instead of my father? or is it split from the time I got married?

I moved a couple of months ago, and didn't get around to changing my address at work. However, I did change my address through USPS. So any mail sent to my old address gets sent to my new one.

So, do they also forward W-2 forms, or are those "Do not Forward" or something? My co-workers have gotten theirs, and mine is still missing.

Thanks.

I've been a working woman for 31 years, and, several times over the years,I would hear people mentioning expressions like "working off the books." I've never done it with any employer. I've always had things like Social Security & Medicare deducted from all my paychecks. That's "on the books."

So,what does "working off the books" really mean?Any bookkeepers, payroll clerks, or accountants out there who can answer this question? Thanks!

A friend of mine's former employer filed for bankruptcy last year, chapter 15 I believe. She hasn't recieved a W2 from them, and I was curious about her tax liabilities in a case like this. The employer was witholding taxes, but apparently not as much as they should have because she was not claiming her daughters as dependents. If she owes, how much is it, and how can she figure it out?

Hi. If I filed an extension and sent in an amount I estimated to be the taxes owed, then upon actually doing the taxes found that I overpaid the initial estimated amount owed, do I have to request the refund or will the IRS automatically send the difference back to me?
