I thought if you're someone else's dependant that you can't even file, much less claim someone else. Call H&R Block, they'll probably answer this for you over the phone, no charge.

You had better talk this out with your mother & both of you get some sound tax advice.

You both can file your taxes alone but it is who can claim whom as a dependent. If your mother supplies less than 50% of your living expenses she would not be able to claim you.

If she pays more than 50% she can claim you as a dependent & you could still file, but indicate on the form that you were claimed as a dependent on some one else's form.

Now with your child it makes it more complicated & here you will need help.

No, someone who IS a dependent can't CLAIM a dependent.
