If you are ordering from within your own state, and there is a sales tax for that state, you will be charged tax. From outside the state, you won't, because there's no national sales tax. But your state does expect you to claim online purchases. As of yet, I don't think they have any way of tracking your purchases, so you really don't have to worry.

Aha! I found a site that backs me up on this!

If an online retailer has a physical presence in a particular state, such as business offices or a warehouse, it must collect sales tax from customers in that state. If a business does not have a physical presence in a state, it is not required to collect sales tax for sales from customers in that state.

If the seller is in your state or has a presence in your state (storefront, brick & mortar store, offices, warehouse or call center for example) they must charge sales tax.

That is in addition to any shipping charges. The shipping charges are NOT a tax.

Sometimes. If the company you buy from has a store or other facility in your state, they have to charge you sales tax - if not, then they usually don't.

depends on where you are buying it. A lot of the on line stores have it figured out according to where you live.
