I was told there was a form to fill out if you got 2 w-2's from the same employer, one with the incorrect SS# and one with the corrected SS#. Does anyone know the form to fill out?

I just purchased my first home this year, and I have been told that I can deduct my property taxes paid. I did not opt to pay them through my mortgage company. How do I find out how much I've paid?
Thanks so much for your answers :)

The moving cost shows up as an 'excluded' income item on my W2. But when I enter the deductions for the move, Turbotax wants to add the difference to my income, thus taxing the moving cost as an income. i did not pay out-of-pocket for the move, but the 'excluded' item will be taxed unless I enter the full amount in the deductions section. Any comments on this?

I have just taken a look at my year end W-2 forms. I paid more to Medicare and Social security than anything else.

Would it make sense to make paying both an optional thing? Or would it do more harm then good?

I completed 2 years of college at a community college, earned an associates diploma and never claimed the tax credit. Now, I am enrolled at another college in a one year associates program and have transfered some of my credits from the other college to be used towards my degree. By, the my college's standards, I am a sophomore. Can I claim the Hope credit or should I go for the lifetime learning credit. What is the difference?

I moved from CA to GA in 2005 and bought my new home in GA in 2005. My CA property didnt sell until June of 2006. I incurred no income in CA but I did pay more than $3k in property taxes and $4m in transfer taxes. My questions are... 1) Since I don't have CA income do I need to file a tax return b/c I sold the property in the state. I applied my homestead exemption so I owe no gains. 2) Can I write off the transfer tax on a state or fed. level? 3) I had two mortgages and had to cash out my 401k to pay for the CA property (I relocated for work). Is there anyway to write off my loss that I incurred from paying to mortgages? 4) Any help in helping me reduce the 10% penalty plus taxes on the $15k I pulled out of my 401k? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

I input my taxes into HR Block and Citizen Tax, and got back two different quotes---with an over $1000 dollar difference. There's a multitude of tax sites that give free service if your income is under $52,000 (I think). I am curious to hear of personal experiences/bad experiences with the different sites out there!

What does it usually cost to have H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt prepare a tax return? We have no home business, and just the normal 1040 with schedule A deductions - married filing joint, if that helps.

I am a 17 yr.old high school Junior. I live with my mother(cp) ,stepfather and four siblings. My father(ncp) claims me and one sister on his tax returns. He got this in the divorce settlement . He does not provide 50 % of my support. I have been working part-time for almost a year. I am starting to work on my financial aid package for college and file my first tax return. question is since he claims me as a dependent do I not get any refund since he claims me. Doesn't seem fair that he gets the deduction and I get nothing ( should be use to it by now )He refuses to NOT claim me and I will probably get stiffed on the financial aid too. I just need to know what to expect.

Someone asked me if they could file separately while still married and get the earned income credit. Another question is what about if someone says they are separated?
