Small Business - November 2007

Hello,

I'm french, 55, and I'm thinking of starting a new life, including work. I'm looking for suggestions. I'm pretty goog at logistics and small scale user's friendly business management. Please forgive my akwardness, this is may first participation on Yahoo! Answers. I already leaved abroad, in USA, Romania and Germany, even though I don't speak romanian and my german is weak. My Nephew receives travel money from his College and typically they make the arrangements for planes and hotels. My husband believes the players have to make their own travel plans, but that doesn't make sense to me. I would think they have the home office, or assistants, make all travel arrangements and have their hotel/plane paid for by the team for which they are employed.

My friend has a software company abroad and asked if we can try to sell some products in the US. His company takes a software framework application (accounting / ERP) with a built in programming language and customizes it to each client. One of such customizations that they did in the past is customer relationship management systems.

What will be the best way to market that product here and find customers? A simple idea that comes to mind would be to find a client and work with them on their requirements. But how to find such a client?

I wanted paypal so it would be instant pay.. but on my paypal it says uncleared and that they sent me an e-check? and it will take a few days to clear?

Is an echeck the same as paypal? I asked for paypal and specificly said no chekcs and money orders.

Is there really jobs out there in the market... say like pdf to word or pdf to html....

i tried selling my stuff on ebay but when it comes to the last page i need to enter a credit card and an id, wich i dont have any yet, i had an i.d. but i got my wallet lost at work and i took another forum for a new i.d. and its arriving in 5 months, i need to sell my stuff quick, how do i do this?

Hey! I'm looking forward to my future, yet I'm thinking of making it easier for myself, financially.
I want to be able to make a steady income, in the comfort of my own home, whilst not investing in thousands and thousands of dollars. I'll be honest, I don't want to spend much, to earn much. I just started out doing freelance web/graphic design. I live in San Diego, CA and everywhere I read, I get mixed information. Some say web/graphic designers do not need business licenses, and others said you absolutely have to.

Here is my questions:

1. Do I need a license in San Diego, CA ?

2. I don't want to use my own name, but would rather use a fictitious name. I already went and got a DBA. Can I use this, or do I have to actually form a company or corporation to make this fictitious name valid ?

3. I would like to open a business account. I just want to have a separate account for all money coming in from my design jobs. Should I wait rather until I have a formal company or corporation before opening a business account, or should I go ahead and open it.

4. I want to be legal, and pay my taxes, but i don't want to start a business and file papers and licenses that is not needed and then get taxed for unneeded stuff.

I will soon be selling E-books and i have seen several on Ebay where the sellers have managed to create graphic so that it looks like the E-book comes in a retail-style box.
Are there any suggestions abput how i might go about getting this image (which will have to be chagnmed for each different E-book i have) or whether there's any particular graphics programme & template i can use to make it?
