My Nephew receives travel money from his College and typically they make the arrangements for planes and hotels. My husband believes the players have to make their own travel plans, but that doesn't make sense to me. I would think they have the home office, or assistants, make all travel arrangements and have their hotel/plane paid for by the team for which they are employed.

Think about it: if you were the owner of the team, would you want to chance that some of your players might not show up?

FOR major league teams, travel is provided. the team pays for the transportation ,usually a charter- air = if the distance warrants it, and the hotel.
The travel money your nephew receives is most likely a mean allowance.

No players at any level that I know of have to pay/arrange their own travel. No way.

when football teams travel, the team rents several rooms at one hotel and all the players have to stay at that hotel, and they are flown/driven all together
