I have recently made some money and was thinking of starting up my own business. Any ideas on which field to go into? My experience is in insurance and sales but I fancy doing something different.

Thanks

I have a friend who regularly purchases a laptop in the $1,500 range, travels to Brazil with it, and sells it for double the price. The profit pays for his plane ticket. Is there a way to do this legally with refurbished laptops through advertising on ebay or other public marketplace?

I am starting a t-shirt company. I have designs available at a local store, but I am sending these designs as well as some unprinted ones to larger stores and web sites. Do I need to copyright the designs, make a non-disclosure agreement, or otherwise protect them from being stolen? If so, how would I go about doing so?

Currently I make soy candles (absolutely delicious) and handmade beaded jewelry. I have developed a small following of dedicated clients through my job and I am interested in taking the next step into making my hobby a business. Any suggestions?

I have looked at all the state of ca sites and I at least know that in order to start a business I will need a seller's permit, business license, fed tax id, register a ficticious business name and do a business name search. Is it really necessary to file all these for an internet store? And does anyone have an estimate idea of how much all of this will cost me? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated...

I have some experience supporting a large website, but not with the entire design process yet. But I really enjoy doing this type of work and would love to make money doing it. I have most of the software I think I would need (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc), as well as space with a hosting service. I am still working on my personal website and I don't have much to include for a personal portfolio yet. What would be the best steps to take to really venture out on my own by starting my own web design business and find potential customers? With all of the 'do it yourself' templates out now, is there a big demand for this type of work still?

What do you think of this business name:

Via United (via_united)

I will be selling electronics (and some new designer clothes)

Does it sound professional? Is it more girly or manly? Do you like it, why or why not?

FOR BEST ANSWER: FIND OUT IF IT IS A TRADE MARK OR NOT

Thanks

Yahoo Answers is well known for it's thoughtful and creative members, so here's one for you to tackle:

A small business in Upstate NY specializing in water, fire, and mold damage, 24/7/365.

And NO, I'm not looking for some ServPro or Service Master-type ripoff name, although those are our direct competition. Do your homework, as I've done mine in terms of what's taken and what is SIMILAR to what's taken.

We've been in business over 10 years and are looking for something more descriptive than what we already have to take this company to the next level. Something easy and memorable, while clear on what it is we do.

Thanks!
