My brother rented a home with an old friend of his he had not seen since high school, they both signed a year lease in June 2007. This friend meet a young woman Labor Day weekend and has been seeing her ever since. She stays there every weekend from Thursday late night after he gets off from work until Monday afternoon, when he goes back to work. She is also there a couple times during the week. By there I mean sleeping overnight, eating, showering, hanging out, ect. This roomate also rarley cleans up after himself and does not perform any maintenance such as mowing, shoveling snow, pitching in on cleaning supplies, ect. This basic maintenance is a requirment on the lease, so is getting permission to have a guest over for long periods. He complained to landlord and the roomate also told his side and obviously lied. The landlord says he does not know who to believe and unless she is receiving mail there he cannot step in. Is receiving mail the only thing that constitutes living there?

Does anyone know how this works. Buying a home and when we signed the purchase contract it was 6 percent, but then a couple days later the lender called a said we needed to lock in a interest rate because it just jumped from 6 to 6.375? Does this sound right? Any help will be appreciated.

I have two questions about apartment utilities. Is there a monthly sewer bill when you rent an apartment? How much is the insurance on an apartment for a studio in northeast ohio? I'm a senior in high school and my girlfriend wants to get an apartment with me when we graduate. Is she crazy?

My husband and I are about to place an offer on a beautifully renovated home just outside of Charlotte, NC. It is an old Mill neighborhood and quite a few have been renovated. The one we are looking at is 179K and the average prices are around 115K This house has had a second floor addition (you cannot see from the front) and the price per square foot is actually $79 in comparison to the average homes in the community at $115. I have 2 questions. First- is this a stupid purchase?? I've heard not to buy the most expensive house in the neighborhood. Second, are we going to have a problem with the appraisal- I've heard it is more difficult with an FHA loan. Any help would be great!!

I am 42 and my husband is 46. We do not "sacrifice" but are careful. Our current outstanding mortgage is $160,000. We started with $346,000 almost 4 years ago, but have been paying it down. Our interest is 4% but it is an adjustable that may jump to 6% in April of 2009. Is there a way to refinance and lower my payments so that we may pay off our home sooner, and so that we may be able to afford college without struggling?

Homes there are so cheap...But when I was younger every time my friends and I went to Rosarito, we would get pulled over and hassled by the cops when passing through Tijuana

I live in Ohio, and I live in an upstairs apartment in a duplex.

My landlords did not tell me the heaters were broken, that 90% of the outlets didn't work, some of the lights don't work and so on...

I called them and let them know about the outlets and heaters and what not, but I told them not to bother coming out and fixing it right away.

It's constantly problem after problem here, and I would like to move out ASAP.

If I just up and left what would happen? My security deposit covers on months rent, but my lease is not up until September.

I don't have credit good enough to qualify for a traditional equity line of credit, but I need to access at least $30,000.00 out of it( It's worth three times that amount) because the house needs a little upgrading like new flooring, kitchen cabinets, etc. How can I make this happen?

Ok so here is the situation. I was planning on buying a condo, but backed out at the last minute. I called them and left a message that i was backing out and they keep calling me now wanting to take. Finally yesterday they left a message saying "ok we understand you want to back out, but now we just need you to sign some papers so you can back out" Is this for real? I am suspecting they are just trying to get me to sign something saying that i agree to pay for the appraisal or they want the 500 dollar deposit that I didnt give. What will happen if i just avoid them completely? Is there REALLY some paperwork you have to sign to back out?

They came home one day and found black soot all over everything. The carpeting and the walls were even covered with this black soot. They are moving elsewhere, but are worried about moving their personal belongings that are soot covered to their new place. The wife just got done having cancer treatments and then come home and find this. My question is, even if they didn't have renters insurance, there still must be a program or something to help them recoup some of their losses. Yes or no? They called the landlord and told him about it and he said he has no plans on replacing the furnace. This is all going on in North Dakota and right now the temp is 10 above with a wind chill of -10 below. Even their appliances are covered with this thick black soot. I couldn't go there and help them get some of their stuff out because I have asthma. Can you think of anywhere where I could refer them to? Thanks for your help?

I found a house that has been foreclosed on that the people were in the process of remodeling. The house is about 85% complete, and now the bank wants a cash deal in order for anyone to purchase because the property isn't finished 100%. Is there a special loan I can get to make the bank happy and allow me to finish the property?

I live in an apartment building; This week a new neighbor moved next door.

Someone in there smokes. A LOT.

Smoke makes me sick (I am allergic to it) and I am feeling every time more sick. I get home from work and the smell is everywhere.

I have now a sore throat, sinusitis and sometimes I just feel like I have no air to breath (needing to leave the apartment and go on the cold outside air).

I keep calling the manager about it. They say that the tenant is allowed to smoke on his apartment and there is nothing I can do. He also says that he is not responsible for my health because they already put some kind of protection on the apartments so that the "bad" part of the smoke doesn't come to my house, so me feeling sick is psychological, and not real.

Also, he says I can always move, paying for an extra month and losing my deposit.

Is it real? I can't take it! I want to move out NOW, but dont want to lose another month of rent and my deposit.

BUT my health is important too!

HELP!

I've been looking at Boston as a potential city to move to at some point in the future. I'm just interested in figuring out what the cost of living is. I keep reading on forums that the house prices are astronomical but I don't know what perspective people are coming from, ie what sort of work they do, or where they lived before, so I don't know how seriously to take that.

I currently live in London, which has the 5th highest cost of living in the world. Boston is 84th on this particular survey (http://www.finfacts.com/costofliving2006.htm) so I'm quite confident that it would be cheaper than I'm used to!

But I'm wondering if anyone could give me more information about house prices (ie average price of family home in Boston or a nice suburb) and whether the salaries paid in Boston somewhat reflect the prices.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with a personal experience of living in Boston, how manageable you find it living there?

I have been approved for a home loan, It'll be a little tight to buy a home, but I love that more than anything.

I moved to this town to be with my boyfriend, things didn't work out after almost two years.

I absolutely love my job, wouldn't quit it just to move back home, so I am face with the dilemna, do I rent or buy?

I have three cats and most rent places won't accept them.

I was wondering how hard it is to get out from underneath it if I decided to move out of this town after a few years.

Is it a really big hassel to sell a home?

I just read that the fed will most likely cut rates again. We are thinking about buying a new home, but were waiting for the prices to drop even lower. Houses in CT that were 850K 3 - 5 years ago are now around 650K Should we wait longer, or will the market now come back up?
