Ok, earlier today I got a knock at the door. My girlfriend is at work and I am working hard at learning CGI. I get up to answer it, "what is going on in bathroom?" (he's polish) I was like "I durno" so we went to the bathroom and the toilet was running. He went to go reset it while cursing F*** this and F***in that. He started yelling at me, and I was like excuse me?? Thats harassment you know! Well he wanted me off the premises. Thats cool. Well apparently he talks like this to my girlfriend a lot, she works for him and his motel. When she moved in she didn't have a lease agreement. Is renting out an apartment from a lagit business in Colorado illegal? Also, if it is legal, what rights do the tenants have if there is no lease? There are many problems with this guy.

I bought a house with my best friend after she got divorced. Within 4 months she got a boyfriend, and 2 months later she moved out and stopped paying on the utilities. She still pays her half of the mortgage but it wasn't enough for me to still be able to live there so I moved back home with my parents. The house has been sitting empty for about 8 months now and we recently found a renter. She gave the possible renter (one of her sisters friends) a key to the house and they have been in there and keep asking when I am going to get my stuff out. I got most of it out, but left a tub in the kitchen to get the dishes, came back and someone had THROWN all my stuff in a box. I do NOT want to rent to these people, if they can be this rude to me now, what makes me think they are going to respect my house. My ex-friend said if they don't move in she isn't paying on the house anymore. What should I do?

To make a long story short, this morning, a man pulled up to the dumpster at my apartment complex, dumped a sealed trash bag with trash and 9 or 10 live rats in it and took off. I called the police because I thought it was a baby or a dog. By the time they got there 15 minutes later, the rats had chewed holes in the bag and came out. The police dismissed it as wild rats in a dumpster attacking a bag. I watched that bag move for 10 minutes with only two other trash bags and no animals at all in that dumpster. The rats acted like domestic pet rats but I can't say for sure. The police blew me off and I haven't heard back from my email to the humane society (I told them I didn't know if this was a humane issue or animal control or vector control). I'm wondering if I should report this to the apartment manager. Whether the guy was cleaning out his house or dumping pets, he dumped a lot of rats onto the property. But if the police blew it off, whats the point?

I recently moved. My electric bill in this house is sky high. I need to discuss this with the landlord. But I want to be more prepared. What all could be wrong w/a house, to cause an electric bill to raise very high? (I'm aware that if we use more water, leave more lights on etc, that will do it. I'm just looking for things that could be wrong w/a house to cause it). There are some gaps in the doors that lead outside, so that's one thing. What are some other things I should ask him to have checked? Thanks!

My tenants have caused 5k worth of water damage do to negligence on their part. Their washer leaked. My insurance is paying for the damages except for my 1k deductible. Is it recommended I ask the tenants to pay for the decutible and cost of a plumber to assess the problem. I'm concerned this may cause the tenants to retaliate and damage my place causing me more issues. Any suggestions?

The apartment I am looking into allows pets, but they charge outrageous deposits and extra rent per month. I have two cats. I am wondering if when I sign the lease I say I don't have pets to avoid paying the deposit and extra rent. It's an apartment complex run by a corporation so the only people coming into my apartment will be maintenance and how are they supposed to know I said I don't have pets on my lease? Will this work? Anyone get away with it before?

I know that you can receive $12,000 and it is ok. But, say the couple buying the house is not married. The parents of the man want to give a $12,000 gift to the son, and then a $12,000 gift to the future daughter in law. Can you get a gift from your mom and dad, to actually make it $24,000? Then, if that were allowed, an additional $24,000 can be given to the future daughter in law as well? So is that a way of getting around the $12,000 per year per person?

Hired private apartment in Mallorca. The apartment had many faults and we suffered several calls form estate agents all who had keys to get into property to show potential buyers around. Contacted owner who then said it was acceptable behaviour. It totally ruined our holiday. Please advise on how I can get some form of compensation. At no point were we told that the apartment was up for sale by the owner.

Does anyone else find it bizarre that in order to rent a flat in Britain you have to provide the landlord with everything but a blood test.

Security deposit. okay.

Two refs. Okay

But bank statements; a guarantor; a copy of your passport.

Hold on..........................! And you get nothing from them.

Furthermore you`ve got to believe they will act with complete honesty and be totally nonpartisan (not to mention above being bitchy, petty and/or vindictive)...

It ain`t so tough and/or personally invasive in America.

I read on my apartment lease that if I'm in the hospital or something around the time rent is due, they reserve the right to evict me & move out all my things & charge me storage fees. Well, I think I might have to go to the mental hospital soon if my panic attacks & depression don't get better, & I'm afraid of losing my apartment. My credit is bad, & this is my only opportunity of having my own place. I don't wanna lose this apartment. Shouldn't they make hospital stay an exception, ESPECIALLY when I have GUARANTEED income-SSI & Social Security & can make a late payment & pay any late fees? I'm mentally disabled & can't help if my illness is getting worse-bad enough that I'm considered a danger to myself & others, even though I don't plan to hurt anyone or myself. When people ask if I feel like hurting myself, they think I'm lying, when I'm not. I'm afraid mental health professionals might put me in the mental hospital against my will. It happened before, & I wasn't a danger.
