My husband who just served 3 years in Iraq was offered a VA loan. Not receiving much information on this service, we don't know if it's exactly true or what the circumstances are. We're renting at the current moment and are interested in purchasing property. Before we do so, can anyone give me details on VA loans and the difference between them and regular mortgages? Thanks in advance!

Out water heater caught on fire and caused a hose to burst. The entire first floor of our townhouse was flooded. We had multiple fans and dehumidifiers running in our home for over a week. The water and electric bills are going to be due in a couple of weeks and are considerably higher than normal. We also had to take our daughter to the doctor for smoke inhalation. Who is responsible for the charges incurred? Our landlord has not offered to pay for anything. We don't have insurance for our belongings so I know we are on our own for the damage caused to them. But what about the utility and doctor bills? I'm not sure what I have the right to expect from my landlord.

The general consensus is that mortgage companies won't lend to buy properties that have less than 60 years on the lease. Your view and experience please.

It's a long story but I will try to be brief. My parents have bought their council flat, they now want to sell but their neighbour downstairs could cause some potential problems, (she moved in after they began buying). She is an umemployed drug user with four children and a dog, she allows the dog to foul the outside of the properties, she leaves household junk outside of her flat and constantly plays loud music, she has an 'on off' boyfriend who she is always fighting with (physically) and loudly and the police are regular visitors to her flat.
My parents have considered complaining to the council about her but apparantly they would have to declare a dispute with the neighbour to any potential buyers which they fear could put buyers off, not to mention the condition she keeps the outside of her flat in, which viewers have to pass to gain access to my parents flat. They don't want to do anything to upset her in case she causes more problems whilst they are trying to sell.

Do you have to declare it to the tax man and is it easy to find tenants?

Is it easier said than done?

I am in the process of moving house, we have been accepted in principal for a mortgage with Northern Rock, but I have been in touch with my bank I have realised that I have been living over my overdraft for the last 12 months and have been charged each month for this– (I thought my overdraft facility was 500 instead it is only 200) – I’m a dumb *** for not realising my mistake earlier – but I’ve been in touch with the bank and they have said it will go against my credit scoring. Now, if I’ve already had a mortgage accepted in principal – Northern Rock can’t refuse me a mortgage from now on? or can they?
Hopefully, I should be in my new house within 6 –8 weeks and my 500 debt will be cleared but I’m kinda panicking as my current house has already sold and i dont want them to refuse me a mortgage at this stage.

Will Northern Rock require copies of my Bank Statements?

Is there a particular income level where you just lose way too much money renting an apartment as opposed to buying your own house? Take into consideration the tax-deductible mortgage interest payments. Equate home equity with cash savings.

So, can you buy house, then fix it up, and sell it for a higher price to make profit? Or you have to wait a certain months before you can sell a house.

I was happy with the original loan servicer, whose company was a member of the BBB and had relatively few complaints. But they sold it to a company that has an outragious number of complaints to the BBB and is not a member. I don't feel comfortable doing business with them. Also, according to the BBB report, the new company made little effort to resolve the complaints.
