Most of the time they do unless they definitely know the sq footage. I see some people say the assessor's office, you could do that, but I have found errors in their records. There may have been remodling including add-ons, so I rather do it.

Its rare a Realtor will measure the outside of a house. But if they want to list the square foot (size) of the home, that is the way to get it
Usually they will have an estimated sq ft to use or will ask the owner

Most people measuring a home would be real estate appraisers,
Its part of the appraisal process to get the exact size of the structure.

not normally ... they will take the sf measurements from the county assessor's office.

Actual field measurements are taken by the appraiser once the property is in escrow.

don't need to. they would have gone to town records for all the basics on the house, which would include measurements and plot plan amongst other things
