My fiance has a 401K and recently switched companies and we decided it was the best thing to cash out the 401k. However, with the market crashing, does that effect how much the balance will be, or did they freeze the account since we're doing paper work to have it cashed out? I've never had one so I don't really know how it works. Thanks.

I am trying to enroll in a real estate school and I need about $25k. I know there are grants available for this specific purpose, but I dont know who to talk to or how to apply. Any suggestions about how to apply for these grants, or if there is any other way for me to allocate the funds very, very quickly?

The thing is I have no job, the income comes from my husband who does not have an ssn at the moment. And to make things worse I have very poor credit. Its at 548 I believe. I am the only one on the deed. With all of this in mind, is there any bank that would give me a loan at all....

Would the post office be a good option? I do not mind if it takes long to reach the receiver.

and the balance is 290,000 what the savings would be? In other words rather than commit to a 15 year mortgage and the higher payment, commit to yourself to pay the extra cash unless an emergency arises.

My Discover card has two balances, $2038.96 at 0% interest and $1684.02 at 12.49% interest. When I make a payment it is applied towards the “front” or 0% balance only while the “back” or 12.49% balance just gets larger and larger. I make a payment of $100 per month. Would it save me to transfer both of these balances to one account with a 10.9% interest rate?

I have two checking accounts with different banks. I understand that I can transfer money from Bank A to Bank B by writing a check to myself from Bank A and depositing it into Bank B.

The question I have is, can I have that check from Bank A sent to Bank B via "Bill Pay" and expect Bank B to deposit it for me? I would address the check to myself yet have it sent to the Bank B address.

This would be nice if it worked (yeah, I know I'm lazy); however, I can think of a few reasons why Bank B wouldn't be willing or able to deposit the check for me.

Anyone know for certain whether this is possible?

I'm a contractor overseas debating whether I'll be here 6 months or a year. When I get back to the states I'll be making pretty good money but not as much as I am as a contractor so I would like my mortgage payment to be lower.

I am on the verge of being evicted, and cannot find work to help buy what my children need for the winter. They need coats, boots, and clothing. I need everything also, but am more concerned about my kids. My home is also without heat or hot water, as I cannot afford to pay the bill. I do not have a car, so all extra money goes to bus fare. How can I find help in my area with limited resources?

My husband and I are working towards eliminating some of our household costs. We already avoid debt, save money, and try to live within our means. We both work and make a fairly good income, but we never seem to get ahead. Please give me some pointers on what else we can do to pay off our debt and have more money in the bank.

My partner is low paid and I'm at home with our baby son. We're really struggling.

We get tax credits every week, not a large amount as we had an "overpayment" last year and they are clawing some of it back, but what we get really helps.

If I was to find a part time job would it just reduce our tax credits even further? I mean even if I didn't tell them about the job they would find out when they do our end of year renewal next year wouldn't they? And then claw more back from us next year? How does this work?

Also if this affected our tax credits would I still get any help with childcare costs? Because in order to work at all I would need to put my son in childcare.
