I am on the verge of being evicted, and cannot find work to help buy what my children need for the winter. They need coats, boots, and clothing. I need everything also, but am more concerned about my kids. My home is also without heat or hot water, as I cannot afford to pay the bill. I do not have a car, so all extra money goes to bus fare. How can I find help in my area with limited resources?

Go to your local social services office. Also the Red Cross could probably help you too.

There are food pantries in most cities as well.

It's winter now (sort of) and I don't think they can legally turn off your heat but I'm not sure on that one. Call your utility and find out if you can get it kept on.

Many utility companies have programs to help with utility bills for people who can't pay them.

Check with your local social services organizations.

Check thrift shops for clothes for your kids.

Check local churches and food banks.

See if you can find a temp or a part-time job.

Good luck.
