Personal Finance - September 2007

I don't have a credit card cuz or a car so i have to use cash for stuff and also carry stuff myself. The problem is shopping can use a lot of money and carrying that much money is not safe where i live or anywhere really. Its the same for carrying around bags of stuff cuz its not safe. So i end up having to ask my mom to come with me and its so embarrasing! What am i supposed to do?

When I signed up for DirecTV service I was told that it required a 1-year commitment. 19 months later I cancel service. 1 month later a fee shows up on my credit card bill for $125 for early cancellation. Not only did they misinform me when I signed up, they didn't mention the fee when I was canceling service. I called, they said it was a 2 year requirement. Is there anything I can do to fight this?

this is one of our family friends income. do u think this income is too excessive? they live in a $5 million house, have 3 Mercedes-Benzs and basically live a life of a celebrity (without the tabloids) they arn't selfish either. they are helping a town in a poor country get back on its feet after a natural disaster. i've been on their yacht and let me tell u, its gorgeous. i would love to reach an income like that.

I am talking about a very easy to understand book that teaches you about the different types of investments, coupon rates, premium and discount rates etc. I have no clue about this entire subject and need a book that can help me understand this in a non-complicated way.

My mother has told me that if even one of her bank accounts, automobiles, etc. is not included in the framily trust, everything would be thrown into probate at the time of her death. Today she opened up a money market account. The bank told her not to be concerned about having my sister and I fill out a family trust form so she had them put my name on the account as co-owner. The bank told her that at her death, no death certificate would be needed; I would just close out the account and divide it with my sister. Should I be concerned that family trust forms were not part of the application process?

I am based in the uk and am a uk citizen. I incurred a debt in usa [timeshare] - will the debt collection agency take me to court here? Will they send bailiffs? Will a uk court order me to pay? I have explained to the timeshare company my financial situation; I have never used the timeshare and hoped they might just sell it on - no such luck!

My aunt, age 58, has ALS. She is being denied Medicare (told to wait until 65, she won't be alive then) but shouldn't she at MINIMUM receive SSDI since she is unable to work? She has retired with the government with 25 years but shouldn't she be able to get at least SSDI &/or Medicare?

every time i have looked for something to do i have to spend money first... hello if i'm trying to make money its because i don't have any.i'm very frustrated because i cant get the help from the goverment that i need, i don't qualify. and so im stuck... i don't want to frustrate my husband any more and now for the past 3 months i have been ill, can't see a dr don't have insure. but enough of my wining i just need to know what can i do the will allow me to take care of my kids and get the funds we need to just to make ends meet, i'm not trying to live beyond me means i'm just trying to survive...

I just found out I'm 108 overdrawn in the bank. I owe the air conditioner guy 90 dollars and my check is only 298. My husband works out of town and needs money put in the bank. He has know idea that we are overdrawn and will be furious! I need to know what everyone else would do in this situation. I'm really just venting I know its my problem but any help would be greatly appreciated. At this point I'm trying to find ways to get the $108 so he does'nt find out. By the way it was an error on my part that caused it.
