I have two separate, but related questions:

1. I have an uncashed check that is 5 years old and it does not have a “cash with x months” statement on it. Can I still cash it?

2. How to I get a company to reissue a check that is older than the “cash within 6 months” date on the check?

Serious response only. Please state your source.

I am moving soon and am going to be on a very tight budget. My family consists of my husband, me and our one year old daughter and we live in NJ.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for saving money in general? Anything you have found helpful to cutting your spending down?

Thanks in advance!!

My landlord is a crook. As my current lease, he attempted to raise the rend by $200 per month this year. I disputed the increase, so he verbally gave me an option to accept the increaed rent or stay 2 months for free and then move out. Last year he gave me the same option, but I accepted the increase. This time I decided to take the offer and been enjoying my rent-free 2 months while accumulating money for my move. Strangely he has kept sending a bill at the beginning of the month, although he never came by or called me. I assumed that because it is a management company that manages large apartment blocks, maybe they keep sending the bills for some accounting purposes. I thought it was OK, because if he wanted to collect the rent he would show up here and call me constantly. Then I've received a letter letter from a collection agency that is working to collect the rent in arrears. If I refuse to pay and dispute, how strong is the landlord's case without a signed current lease?

This Wednesday I called my bank's Credit Card department and asked if I made a transfer from my CC to my Checking (also with them) would there be any fee to do so. Their phone rep. said, "There'll be NO FEES as long as you do it on-line." I asked her TWICE, just to be sure, becuz I am TotallyDisabled and cannot afford any huge transfer fees !!! Well, while doing some on-line banking today I saw a huge FEE of $140.00 attached to my CC (M/C) as a FEE for that transfer !!! Being terribly upset, I phoned them & was told, "We do have fees & they can't be waived!" Well, I don't want it waived, I WANT IT REMOVED, as I was told by THEIR REP. that THERE'D BE "NO FEE" ! I asked to speak to a supervisor & was told that she'd get me 1,"but she won't waive the fee either"!!! I was then told they were too busy & I'd get a "call back w/i 24 hrs.So, I sent them an on-line written message informing them of the problem & pleading 4 them to DO THE RIGHT THING! WHAT ELSE CAN I DO if this fails? HELP

I financed a car 3 years ago and at the time I had bad credit, so the car salesman talked my mother into putting the car in her name in order to get the lower APR, which I believe was 8%. They told me to make consecutive payments on time for a year and then it should be no problem to switch the loan to my name. So a year later after I had made all my payments on time I called the credit union who financed the car and they denied my request to switch the loan to my name because my credit score wasn't high enough. So at this point the car is still in my moms name, and due to financial problems, my credit score is probably at the same place it was back then, or possibly even worse. My mom wants the car out of her name and I am stuck, I can barely afford that car anymore. I have recently decided to file for bankruptcy because I have a lot of medical bills and outrageous utility bills that I can no longer handle. I would love to put the car in my name and then file for bankruptcy. cont...

My fiance and I currently split ALL of the bills evenly. Mortgage, Utilities, Cable, etc. We each pay for our own cars and insurance. We also each pay for our own credit card bills and student loans.

The thing is, I make $45,000 a year and he makes close to $65,000 but can make up to $70-75 in overtime a year.

Is this fair? Every so often, I ask him to help out a little extra (pick up a utility bill or 2) but he's dead set on the fact that he works for his own money. I understand that overtime can be exhausting but he gets time and a half for that. My job does not offer OT so I would need to get a part time job makes less than what I make now.

What is the fair way to do this?

My job automatically provides me with $50,000 life insurance free of cost. Many years ago, I opted to pay $80/month to increase it to $100,000. My son is 26 years old now. I was thinking I would cancel the additional insurance I pay for ($80/month) and sock it away in a savings for my retirement. I'm 55 yrs. old. Any advice?

I have five children. My husband and I had one and he and his ex had four; they all live with us. I have always thought of these children as my own because their mother floats in and out of their life. I recently purchased a life insurance policy on myself and have listed my spouse and my children as the beneficiaries, my husband getting 50% to pay off the mortgage and debts and then each child gets 10%. But I am wondering if I've made a good decision. I worry if something unfortunate did happen to both my husband and I that the kids mother would just blow all the money. I got this policy for peace of mind to make sure that they wouldn't have to worry about the mortgage and college and all those things but should I leave more for my biological son then my step children? I don't like to think of them separately as I said, they are all my children. I just want to do what's right by them. Please don't be rude or a smart ***... I really just would like to hear other peoples opinions.
