I've heard that some members of the clergy don't pay into SS. Can I become a Rev. online to accomplish this?

No.

Opting out of social security is an option for members of the clergy but it comes with conditions. You have to basically take a vow of poverty and, even then, it must be approved by the IRS. I doubt being a part-time Reverend from an online church would pass muster.

Along with what Wayne said, you'd have to belong to one of a few approved religious sects. One of the qualifiers is that it must have been in existence since sometime in the early 1950s. Don't recall the exact dates but any newly created sect won't qualify, that much is a certainty.

I listen to Dave Ramsey and he says you can opt out of SS but you have to give up your citizenship.
