I spoke with Payplan as I'm unable at this time to pay my debts..it's the interest that is the killer. I am scared one of the credit card companies will write to my employer or pass the debt off to a shark. Does anyone have experience of dealing with Payplan or a similar co, because i have to make a decision now. Payplan say not to wory, to send correspondence to them, and deal with letters / calls promptly. But I feel so scared. Has anyone been through this, coped, and survived? Appreciate your thoughts please.

I would like to become financially wealthy. I'm currently 18, and am set to start college in the Fall. I'm looking for any advice (or critiques of the advice I've listed below) that anyone cares to give me. Thanks in advance!

Here are a few things I've been told to do in order to become wealthy:

1. Attend college
2. Spend less than you make
3. Don't go into debt (including the use of credit cards)
4. Invest in mutual funds and set up a Roth IRA
5. Never buy brand new cars; their worth depreciates as soon as you drive off the sales lot

My husband passed away in 1999. He was collecting some social security bit I am not certain how much.
He retired in 1992 at the age of 64.
He earned $800,000. in his last year of employment.
I know that I am eligible for 71% at age 60 in 2 years.
Can anyone help me calculate the amount?

I rolled over an existing 401k into a traditional IRA. My current firm doesn't have a 401k or any other kind of plan. I'd like to contribute to my traditional IRA but I'm being told that I can't contribute to both a traditinal IRA and a Roth IRA at the same time unless the one is from the current employer.

My husband and I have several thousand dollars in credit card debt spread over 10 cards each that still has available balances. Is it better for us to leave it this way or to consolidate those balances so we have less credit cards even though those cards will then all be maxed out? I'm just wondering which is better from a credit reporting/ credit score perspective. Also taking an equity loan or line of credit isn't an option.

People have advised me to consider filing bankruptcy since my credit is ruined. They seem to think that it could not hurt me since I am already bottomed out.

I just got served with papers to go to court. Apparently my old college is trying to say that I owe the 6 grand and they sold my debt to a collector so know i can't even argue the legitamacy of the debt. I have no money for a lawyer, but I heard if you file for bankrupcy it will at least buy some time. I am not interested in finishing the bnkrupsy, but merely getting to that 7th year so the money will fall off

I messed up my credit as a kid, and it's taken me years to rebuild, but now I'm getting phone calls from people who barely speak English and have only a 1-800 # and a PO Box, wanting to "collect on a debt" that's over 6-7 years old and this is the first time anyone was able to get a hold of me ~ obviously, a scam...but what are my options for making them go away? I've called the BBB on one company - turns out they've already had 15+ complaints brought against them, and their rating is so low they don't even care about the Better Business Bureau. They call daily, nighly, on weekends & holidays, usually leaving recorded messages...Do I have any protection under law without pursuing litigation or changing my phone number?

I owe £20,000, if i get a mortgage on a house would it be possible to pay of my debt with the mortgage i would be allowed to borrow. So if i am allowed £120,000 and i find a house for £100,00 can i use the remainder of my allowance to pay of my debt. Is there a lender who will do this. Thanks

I received a balance transfer check from my credit card with a 0% apr.

With a large limit. I wrote the check out to myself and deposited it to my checking accout for $18800.

Later on I find out there was a stop put on my check from the credit card company because it is new and it was done for security measures.

Now I am going to owe my bank that money, and the money is already gone, I used it to pay of other debt figuring the 0%apr would be great because it is for two years!!!

What can i do this whole thing is such a bad mess. I mean it was a check in my name.

So I call the credit card company to let them know it was me and they verified all my info and said fine, but they only did it out of security reason to make sure it was me putting it into my checking account.

Only problem is they are closing my account and they apologize for any inconveniance. To try to open an account in the future.

What can my bank do to me legally. I will pay them back but it is going to take awhile.
