I plan to scan old bank statements (from the last 3 years) into the computer so that I can save them that way, but do I need to keep the receipts that went along with them? I have the receipts for each month filed with the statement, but I wonder if having a copy of the statement is enough. Also, should I keep bank statements longer than 3 years? Please advise!

The circumstances are too drawn out to explain here, but my bank ended up depositing nearly $450 into my checking account that it shouldn't have. I figure they'll take it back eventually, but I assume that eventually they won't be able to legally.

A transaction went through from paypal that wasn't supposed to that put my account into the negative. I was told by today the transaction would be cancelled by insufficient funds and what money I did have in my account would be put back in. Today I checked my account and it says return of posted check/item (received on 6/19) electronic transaction in the cleared part of my account, but no money has been refunded to me. What is going on?

I have a large amount in 401K and this student loan is more than the 401K and it is a huge huge burden on my life. Would you withdraw the 401K to pay off this worthless debt ( I 'm a little pissed about it because its gotten me nowhere) or would that be a bad idea. It is such a burden to me.

All of it is money I received from graduation gifts. It is currently in an interest checking account with 4.9% interest, which is really good. Should I keep my money in there or is there something else that would generate a better return rate?

I recently moved to the US from Canada and have been wondering about these two types of plans. Originally I did not intend to stay in the US for more than a year and decided to go with my employers Executive Differred Compensation plan (they match contributions at 50%) since I qualified for it with my position. Things have worked out differently and now I will be in the US much longer than I had planned. Should I start a 401(k) plan now or stick to the Exec one I started with?

My mother is elderly and is confined to a wheelchair, not in the best of health. I have been staying with her for the past 3 years, caring for her and handling her affairs. She has a safe deposit box and has given me the box # and key, asking me to bring her the items in the box. Will I be able to access or is mother the only one allowed access??

I am currently slightly behind on my car loan payments (not even 1 month just a few weeks late on one payment).
The company i owe the money to keep calling me at work i have told them that i am not able to take personal calls but they just keep ringing.
i have no idea where they have got the number from either, i did not give them it.
Is there anything in the law that says they must stop calling my work number once i have advised them it is not appropriate.

PS - I have every intention of speaking to them but i work from 8:30 to 18:00 monday to thursday, they open 9 - 5. My intention is to call them on friday.

Prior to January, I had just house hold bills, and a couple credit cards I am paying off. Paid one off completely, with 2 to go. (lost job a while back and it snowballed into owing around 7 grand total, paid off one, 2 grand, 2 left).....have usual property tax, light bill, water, etc. (and my internet, which is my ONLY recreation/entertainment, no going out to movie/dinners etc.)
But have about 10K in new medical bills, due to a MISdiognosis on top of it.....The house and vehicles are paid for, vehicles aren't worth squat, but the property is enough to cover it all, but....
A. would a lender even consider refinancing, not behind on anything......
B. property is paid for, and so badly don't want a mortgage again...
C. if I don't, I am sure they can hound me till I have a nervous breakdown or smack a lein, or attempt to take my property for the medical bills.
D. home equity, if something happens and you can't pay, poof, they GET your property.
any suggestions?????
