I'm currently looking at having my limit on my credit card increased, but before I do, I really need to know how having more available credit/increased credit limit will affect me mainly because I will be applying for a mortgage later this year.

Hello all,
I recived a letter from a law firm out in NY demanding 3600. I immeditly asked for a good friends advice.. He told me to write a certified letter asking them to validate the debt, this would even get me the signature signing up for the card. I have sent this letter 2nd week in july and no reponse yet and they did sign for it that week. I live in south dakota where the SOL is 6 years, this debt showed it was charge off on may of 2001. Had some credit issues "Marriage gone bad" Anyone else been in this situation, this is the first letter i have recived on this matter.

I have a credit card that has given me bad credit since 6 years ago. It has accumulated more finance charges since then and has been sent to a attorney.
I would like to pay it off (or settle), but I do not want it to stay on my report as negative credit that has just been "paid off". I want the entire thing removed. How do I make sure that this happens, and who do I speak with?
The credit card company or the credit report agency?

Will doing the following have different effects on your credit score?

If you pay your credit card bill right after your statement date v.s paying it right before the due date?

If so, how big is the difference?

Our stepmother got 2 credit cards in my brother's name (one with a limit of $2500 and the other a limit of $3000) and maxed them out. He can not prove that he did not make these charges and that she did, because everything she bought on the cards, she either bought online, or through catalogs, and everything was shipped to her address which is also my brother's mailing address. He is paying on the balances, but is in the Army and is about to be deployed to Iraq for his 3rd tour. Anyhow, one of the credit card co's said they were going to garnish his wages because he was not paying enough on the balance monthly. Can they actually do that??

I was sued and a judgement was awarded against me because i did not appear. The papers they served me with found their way to the right address (i was not home when they were droped off), but the official address they used when they filed was the wrong one, one where i never resided. Was this legal? Is there a loophole for me to at least make them go through the whole process again voiding the original judgement since they had the wrong address? This was a business line of credit through a bank that i defaulted on but tried numerous times to settle out or work out a new payment plan but they would not negotiate anything with me. I settled all my other debts except this one because they would'nt work with me at all.

Hopefully someone can help me out. I have an old (about 5 years old) credit card debt of $4309.00 which I am trying to settle for $2500. In April the account went to a collection agency who offered to settle for $2200. At that time I was in financial hardship and (divorce, single mom, unemployment, overextended) I did not have the money and could not accept. Now the account has went to a law firm. I called them and asked them to settle - they seem more interested in finding out how much money I make and my job than trying to settle. Of course I got upset and told them I would I would call the credit card company and they said the credit card company would refer me back to them. Shouldn't they (the law firm) be working with me to try and settle this debt? What should I do? I also told them them that I would like my credit reported as "paid" after I gave them the money - they said they had nothing to do with the credit bureau. Help!!!

I have a debt from an apartment complex from 6 years ago. It was a shared debt between my room mate and me. Both of our names are on the debt, but the collection agency has been speaking to his mother, wihtout my permission. They received permission from the other person, but NOT me. Is this a violation of some law, because they are calling me non-stop! and are very rude, as well as unethical. What are my options?

I am in over my head with debt and right now I can not make all of my payments. I was just wondering how any one was doing after bankruptcy. I have heard that you can get back on your feet and get loans even if you have went bankrupt. I was just wanting to get some opinions. Has anyone ever done it? What are the consequences that most people experience? I am hearing about new laws. Are they really affecting jobs? Please someone help.

I know this is sort of a dumb question, and I know what it means, they put all of your bills together for one monthly payment, but does it really help? or do they end up screwing you over in the end..? I have 3 credit cards way over due and I thought about doing this since my credit is shot. I'd appreciate the help, thanks!
