I had an auto lease which ended early last year. On the credit report, it has always shown as "paid and closed". But I started to receive collection calls this year. I called the lease company. They told me that they credited someone else's payment to my account by mistake, and I still owe them money.

They also told me that the collection is already reported when they turned over the account to the collection agency, and they have no way to undo it, but I do not see the record anywhere. Why is that? After the account is closed, can they reopen it and report collection? Is there any way to prevent it from getting on to my account? Thank you!

She has asked for proof that when the car was sold at auction that there was not enough to cover the balance of the loan, and she has received no proof. When called by the finance company she has cooperated by telling them just how much she could pay on a monthly basis, but was always told that 'we'll look into that and get back to you'. She feels that because the finance company reposed the car, and failed to get enough money for it at auction, she should not be liable for any outstanding monies.

My account was closed by the bank due to number of credit cards I have and high balance. I will be able to close all in 6 months. Can other banks close my credit card accounts as well? What is the best way to handle it?

I bought my husband a tennis racket in a sporting goods store today - it wasn't in stock yet so I prepaid for it with my credit card and said I would pick it up tomorrow. When I got home my husband told me he didn't want the racket - the store has signs all over the place that said "Returns are for store credit only" but if I didn't actually take the racket home can I ask the store owner to refund my credit card? Help! It's $300 - it was for his birthday and I can't afford to lose that money.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

In 1996 I entered into a contract with a major Health Club chain. I then moved out of state and my last payment or any other contact was made in 1997. Apparently, they never acknowledged this and a Collection Agency in Utah has picked this up and is now calling me. I have drafted a letter stating that I dispute the claim and that the statute of limitations has expired. However, I read something about the Utah state SOL being reset if a written acknowledgement is sent and signed.

Which state's statue of limiations apply here? The state where I signed the contract (Florida), the state where I currently reside (CA), or the state in which the Collection Agency operates (Utah)?

Thanks in advance.

My partner and I have been looking at buying a house but we can't get a large enough mortgage. It seems the only way to get a higher one is to get a higher credit score. I have never been in debt, he has a CCJ from years ago for about £800 which has been paid fully for over a year and our income is low. I am thinking of getting the card only in my name. Basically, the card would be used for ID purposes and small purchases just to get a credit score so I would want one with no annual fees or anything like that.

I've just looked at a few cards and I am confused! I have seen a couple which look good but I am still not sure.

I just recently purchased my vantage score and it was 685. My grade was a D. That sucks! If it was a fico score it would be graded as having a good score. What company would give me credit with that grade using the vantage score?

I don't want to tell my parents and I am trying to figure out the best way to pay off this debt. Should I close the account? Will that hurt my credit score even more? What does my credit score look like with the 6, 531 I owe? What is the best why I can get myself out of this mess? And still have a decent credit score? What should I say to the creditors? Should I close the account and go to the collection agency? Please help! And yeah I know I'm young and dumb and I f**ked up big time!!
