if you request a special order you usually have to pay for it before they will make it

You do have a contract with them, or some form of written agreement?

You need to read your contract.

Look to see if it is in your contract that you have to pay any money up front. Or pay when you receive the furniture.

If it reads that you pay on delivery, I don't see how they can legally turn your account over to a collection agency when you haven't received the goods. Or how they can change the contract at their whim to request payment without delivery.

If the contract states you were supposed to pay some or all of the cost up front, I don't know if you have any recourse if you haven't paid the amount agreed to in the contract.

You may want to speak with an attorney.

Yes! since you have a special order, what if you changed your mind? they would be stuck with the special couch. negotiate for a deposit but you cannot blame them for asking the full price up front. Its like hand made jewelry
