My managers have decided to sack everyone in Jan!

One of the managers could not bear to tell us so he left early and claimed that he was going to work from home.

Another manager called me out, then hit me with that.

I then said is there nothing we can do?

We are telephone medical bill collectors, I even said I will make the branch progress.

He is an operations manager, but is always working from home and saying that we are not performing and making money.

He said that he will tell the rest of the staff on Monday, we break up for Christmas the following Friday! NICE!

The manager has told me not to say anything.. but I dont think it is far, I feel sorry for everyone, one girl is pregnant and thinks she will get full maternity. Another is a single mother who has to pay nursery fees, another chap has a pregnant wife who is due in January.

What do you think of this scenario?

Also, how many years of experience you have. I'd just like to compare wages in different countries and different sectors.

I started working in October and my son had a severe case of pink eye, which I in turn received. I went to work not knowing I had the pink eye and when I figured it out my boss MADE me go home. This is all understood, however now I'm being written up for it. I was out for 2 days due to the pink eye, and I came in "late" (if you call 2 minutes late) on 5 occasions. My requests for my time records have been denied, and the HR women is constantly treating me unfairly. I was never given a formal "verbal" warning before I was written up, and now I'll be fired should I ever be late again. Just yesterday my son was out sick from school (they have very strict rules on illness) and I had to take him for his asthma treatments as well as get him some anti-biotics. I called in to this woman and she demanded a Dr's note for his illness. Is all of this legall? I'm at a loss, I beleive they are setting me up for constuctive termination especially because they fired my boss yesterday!

What are some of the questions that the Employer asks the most. I've been having some interviews lately, but i cant seem to land any of the good jobs. Just the low paying ones. How can I better prepare my self to land those good paying jobs. I want to have a general idea about what to say to the most asked questions. I really want to land a good job.

I see there are background checking companies on the internet. How do the hospitals check/what companies do they use? I feel I have gotten turned down for positions I should not have and I need to know if there is something in my background checks or otherwise that I should know. I know I am a good person. I am a thoughtful/hardworking health care provider and I feel I should be employed full time. I appreciate your response.

My employer has asked me to sign a non-compete agreement that was not part of my initial hiring procedure more than a year ago. After consulting with a lawyer I decided that it was too restrictive and not worth the stock they were offering as a carrot. Now they've said I'm not eligible for promotions or bonuses that I've earned because of my refusal to sign.

Is this policy legal? Thanks!

Forced Vacation

I was wondering if it’s legal for a company to shut down say for the time between Christmas and new years and to force its employees to spend vacation days for that time. Basically come January 2nd I will be back in the office and will have lost three days off of my accrued vacation days. Oh and if you don’t have any vacation days left them you lose pay.

I think it’s a crappy thing to do but I’m more interested in knowing if it’s even legal for them to do it. I live and work in Massachusetts.

When a company takes you on after passing interviews etc, are they obliged to give you a contract before you start the job? And, if you've been there some weeks and they still haven't given you a contract, are they breaking the law and can they then just terminate your position and get rid after 12 weeks?

I have worked as a secretary for a small but expanding company for 6 years now. My pay hasnt gone up an awful lot in that time, my work is now boring to me as it's the same day in day out, I'm losing all motivation and feel so tired and bored all the time. I've worked hard in here and feel like I'm not appreciated. I would love to do something with real job satisfaction, helping people or animals (as I love both) or doing something that makes a difference but now that I'm 26 and getting married in 6 months time I feel like I'm destined for a life of children and housework and feel as though I've left it all too late to do something else. By the time I'd trained for another job I would be settled down and it would all have been a waste. Does anyone have any advice of a job I could do which wouldn't take much training etc which I would love, and also get job satisfaction. I just feel like the last 6 years have been wasted.

it seems that 22 year olds with a piece of paper a degree either technical or an associates who have zero work experience or nearly zero stand a better chance at a job these days than do 40ish or early 50's year old people in excellent health, who have years of solid knowledge in a field, they have their HS,and some college.
They are seeking not to do stepping stone from one company to another rather one company faithfully give their energy, many years of experience, yet it is an up hill battle if not impossible.
Employers ,Board of Directors all who themselves are this age are ignoring a huge number of potential employees based on age bias, curious.
The younger people fuss about SS well without employment SS and other Goverment programs are the only way for these vast numbers of Baby Boomers to go.
