My managers have decided to sack everyone in Jan!

One of the managers could not bear to tell us so he left early and claimed that he was going to work from home.

Another manager called me out, then hit me with that.

I then said is there nothing we can do?

We are telephone medical bill collectors, I even said I will make the branch progress.

He is an operations manager, but is always working from home and saying that we are not performing and making money.

He said that he will tell the rest of the staff on Monday, we break up for Christmas the following Friday! NICE!

The manager has told me not to say anything.. but I dont think it is far, I feel sorry for everyone, one girl is pregnant and thinks she will get full maternity. Another is a single mother who has to pay nursery fees, another chap has a pregnant wife who is due in January.

What do you think of this scenario?

Sorry, i was only with the company for 11 months, when we get sacked, it will be 12 months. There is a guy who has only been here a week!

I feel sorry for you being in a situation like that at this time of the year, but sounds like you are better off out of there anyway! Clearly, the managers don't have a clue how to manage people nor of how to run the business - not only is one of them too cowardly to tell you about the situation, but you say that one worker has only been there a week - why the hell were they still hiring people up until a week ago?! They must have been planning to do this at that time, because making everyone redundant is not the sort of thing that they'd do with no forethought.

Do you not think it's a bit odd that they've told you, but no-one else? Normally, if they planned to make the entire lot of you redundant, they'd call a meeting of everyone together and tell you all at the same time. There might be more to this than is apparent right now.

Every year in our country the same thing happens, people have families and debts and companies decide to move to 3rd world countries where they work for less pay.
We used to be an industrial town and now this is changing to tourism.
Tourism is a false economy.
Not a very nice Christmas present.
Be an overcommer or this will pull you down.
But it is happening to people all over the world.

UK has become a 'high wage economy'.

The only affordable workforce in UK are the ex-soviets who know nothing about Mimimium wage, sick pay, holiday pay, redundancy pay, maternity pay, unemployment pay ....
.. and the next generation are so reliant on 'pay for doing nothing' that they can't even be bothered to learn anything at school .. in fact Education and Qualifications are so devalued that I wonder why they even bother to go to Uni. at all...

Go see Citizens Advise Bureau (CAB) = you might as well claim anything that's going, after all, ours will be the last generation to do so .. the next generation have no interest in working at all, and no way are the Poles, Armenians and Estonians going to pay all the Taxes necessary to finance todays benefits ..

I think you should tell everyone so they can start the job hunt now. At time's like this it's more important to be a decent human being rather than a dutiful employee. There's little you can do to change his mind, so you should start the job hunt now as well as your co-workers.

Im sorry to hear that...particularly with xmas so close

I suppose all you can do is move on

As for the pregnant girl....she will still be entitled to statutory maternity pay if she qualified for it anyway

Good luck

the company will have to follow steps to make you redundant, 90 days an all that. but they also have to do a lot for you, example, days off on full pay to look for other jobs, interviews etc. make sure your insurance is you to date, loans etc. good look .... Simon
