i would like to apply for a season retail job at stores in a mall.
this is really embarrassing to say but i've never had a "real" job before and i don't really know how ot get started.
do i just walk in and say i'd like to apply?? should i have my "resume" with me? should i dress properly? any tips would help!
also, when i was younger i helped out a family friend with alot of the office work but i never really got paid for it so i put it down as volunteering (which it technically was) so do i tell them that that was a previous work experiecen or what?>
do they hire if i've never worked before?
any help would do!

thanks!

I have a petty theft record and an agency that I have applied for to help me find a job, has informed me that I need at least a years worth of job experience at the same place, after the conviction or they cannot work with me. I was honest about it and told them about my background, so I wouldn't have to be paranoid about getting fired later on down the line. Alot of people already working with them, lied about their backgrounds and are currently working, so it makes me a little angry that they are taking me through all this. The l petty theft conviction occurred in January of this year and I am currently on probation for another 2 years. It's hard as hell to find a job and I was wondering, if I could use a friend who is a supervisor for a home care facility to be a reference, stating that I "volunteered" for them for a few years, but didn't get paid much to make a living. He is an employee and all they could do is call. What other proof, could they ask for? No check stubs volunteering

If you work for a pizza place as a delivery person are they (the pizza place) required to pay for gas or any other expenses. Any prior experiences are welcome.

What do you think of following response. I wanted job review also not only salary hike.
"This have been very hectic for me lately. We do not normally do formal job reviews, but we can sit down and talk soon (probably Friday). As far as a salary increase, we are not giving any raises the remainder of 2007. We need to finalize some year-end financial issues before we make any changes. We will be evaluating salaries the beginning of 2008."

I work in the agricultural industry and have generated YTD sales of around $1M. I make an hourly wage of $20/hour and work 45-50 hours/week. I have medical, dental, 401K.

This company is fairly young and has never had an inside team before. I would like to ask for commission and/or performance bonuses at my review, but am not sure about how to set up a suggested compensation plan.

How do other industries compensate their inside sales teams?

I'm a certified coder and have worked as a biller and coder for a couple of years. I want to earn some extra money on the side by doing this work at home, but I can't find any telecommuting jobs. Any ideas? I'm also a part time student, and I could definitely use the extra money for school expenses.

Has anyone ever "applied" for the work from home ads in the papers. "1000 envelopes= $10,000. Recive $10 for every envelope you stuffed with our sales material. Guaranteed!" Quoted word for word from my hometown paper. I just want to know if anyone has done this and what the catch is. Does it cost money? I can't see it being for real otherwise wouldn't everyone be doing this????

I work for the County, Department of Human Services. I do not like this job and would prefer not to stay any longer than necessary. I left this job a year ago after being employed here for 5 years. I returned to this job in July of this year after not being sucessful in another venture.

I took the test to become a permanent employee with benefits, (medical, dental, vision, retirement, etc.) that I have to pay OUT OF MY POCKET to have.

As an temp...I do not have ANY benefits but can get my kids on another Medical/dental/vision plan that will save me about $250/mo. My total savings will be about $400 per pay period if I DO NOT become a permanent employee. That's $900 per month!

The ONLY benefit for becoming a permanent employee is that I too, would have medical, dental, vision.

I am tempted to hold out on making a decision until after the first of the year.

My fiance is a med student. He will be leaving this state in 1 1/2 years to do his residency. He wants me to go with him wherever he goes and I certainly want to go with him as well. I have gone through two job interviews this week w/ flying colors. They asked me if in 2 years I might relocate for them. I said yes--knowing full well that I might not even be here in 2 years. They LOVE me. My last interview with corporate is tomorrow and I'm sure they will love me as well. I'm positive that they will ask me about relocation too. I truly want this job but feel guilty for telling them I will relocate in two years when I have every intention of moving away with my b/f when he goes away. Can I get some advice? Should I feel badly about this?

My ex boss offered me a job but wanted to pay cash. She completely denied this to unemployment, but I have the job refusal email and it specifically states I cannot accept a cash position from you because it doesn't cover me as a legal employee. Now Unemployment has to go through the proper channels to see if I can still get benefits. They have the emails from me to my boss and then my boss's email back stating she was sorry she had to lay me off in the first place and good luck. She didn't deny the cash offer in the emails. Do you think Unemployment is in my favor? I have been actively seeking a job so I deserve my benefits!

The reason my boss gives is, she dosn't feel my worker is giving the job her best...or, that my worker has the right attitude. I know my boss is wrong on both counts....in fact, I know the top boss is simply lookingfor ways to save money in the company....in my opinion, there are other ways to save ....in my opinion, this move only diminishes everyones desire and drive in the company.

Here are my questions. If you were in the position I describe would you (a) look for a new job immediately (b) contact the boss directly to discuss this issue.
How would this make you feel ? Would you feel that you were not a valued employee ? Would this hurt your self esteem ?
Thanks !

So I am 1 year out of college and my temp job is about to end. I am wondering what fields I should look into. I was a math major and have an extreme love for numbers and analysis. I DO NOT want actuarial science.

Please, any suggestions would be helpful. I also DO NOT want to be a teacher.
