i would like to apply for a season retail job at stores in a mall.
this is really embarrassing to say but i've never had a "real" job before and i don't really know how ot get started.
do i just walk in and say i'd like to apply?? should i have my "resume" with me? should i dress properly? any tips would help!
also, when i was younger i helped out a family friend with alot of the office work but i never really got paid for it so i put it down as volunteering (which it technically was) so do i tell them that that was a previous work experiecen or what?>
do they hire if i've never worked before?
any help would do!

thanks!

First, most seasonal retail jobs for the 2007 holiday season have already been filed. You don't need a resume for this type of job. I would recommend walking in and asking to talk to a manager about any openings the might have. As for your experience, what you have DONE is the issue. It makes no difference if you were paid.

Seasonal jobs usuall mean Chistmas/Hanuaka holidays. Think of the times you went holiday shopping...the busiest days were Saturday and Sunday- the days that most people have off from work. If the store wants seasonal employees, you will probably work EVERY Saturday and Sunday from mid November to Mid January. You would be the "new" employee, and have few choices as to what schedule you work. Not only the holiday rush, but the day AFTER Christmas the returns start coming in.

Yes include any volunteer work you have done. And list any skills you have that the job may entail.

Good luck.
