I work for my uncle and my cousin. When my cousin was trying to get me to work for them I was told that I could pick my own hours and that I was only going to be doing basic secretary work. After only a couple of days they changed my schedule. I would be working 8 to 5 full time. 2 months later they changed my schedule again. Now I would be working 4 days a week 8-noon. Then a month later it changed yet again. 4 days a week 8-5 mon& wed; 8-noon tue&thur. I have had that last schedule now for the past 7 months. It has worked well for me. I was able to schedule doctors appointments w/out having to ask off work, etc. I have also been saving up money to go back to school. Which I could do on tue, thur, and friday. But last week my uncle told me he wanted me to add 8 more hours; which only meant 4 days a week Mon-thurs 8-5. 10 minutes later he changed it again to mon-fri 8-5. It's really starting to piss me off. How do I say no? my uncle has a bad temper and is verbally abusive to me.

On Fri, after I just got back from my 2.5 week vacation I got a call on my cell from my boss' wife saying that I don't have to go to work anymore. She made up some excuses to fire me although I know they're not true.

Although mad and upset, I think it's time to move on anyway to a better job since I have outgrown this job and don't see that I can build a career in this company. It'd be a good turning pt for me as I can collect Unmployment Insurance (UI) while looking for a new job. At this pt, I'm ready to accept the discharge.

On Sat, I found out fr. a cowork that my boss does not really want to fire me but his wife does cuz she's really paranoid.

I still want to maintain a good relationship with my boss. I think it'd be good if I go back and finish off any unfinished work or assign it to someone else. 2 weeks is the most I'm willing to work and it prb won't be enough to finish the work.

1 What should I do?
2 Will going back for 2 wks affect my ability to collect UI?

Two people walk into their offices looking for a job. Both apply to work at their credit card call center. The job is both customer service, and up selling products like balance transfers. Who would you hire if only able choose one person?

person 1: 52 year old salesman who has done outside sales his whole life. He has recently decided he wants a more stable enviornment and welcomes the $30k salary. This person has little computer experience.

person 2: A recent college graduate, spent last 4 years working in different retail stores (while in school), and uses this to argue he has sales experience. This person has also expressed interest in moving up within the company. They also have ample computer skills.

based on these facts who would you hire for the job? Why?

what if i told you person 1 was hired over person 2, and person 1 quits 2 weeks later after not being able to learn the computer system. Would this change your future hiring practices?

I have no idea how to get employers to take my applications seriously. I want to relocate to Tampa, FL from Milwaukee, WI to be closer to family. I don't want to move until I have a job in Tampa. I am not specilized as in computers, medical, etc... but I do have experience in project management and training. Is there a service out there that helps professionals find jobs remotely beyond the Monster.coms and Careerbuilder.coms? Anyone with any suggestions will be welcomed. I would like to move from Wisconsin as soon as possible :)

I was unfairly fired from my last job. I needed training to do the type of work I was doing, and the employer didn't give me any training. I worked for this company for 6 months in a management position and stepped down to a lower position where I didn't recieve any training. I was only in this lower position for two weeks. I don't know if I should list this employer on my resume or if I should just suck it up and pretend that I never worked there. If I list it on my resume what do I say when asked about my past experience in interviews? Any advice would be beneficial for me at this time. Thanks.

So, I need to take three days off next week -- less than the traditional two weeks required to get vacation days approved. It's for a reason I don't really want to tell my boss (grad school interviews -- they have no idea I'm planning on quitting in the next six months). What's the best thing to tell them to get the time off?

Ideas that have been given to me so far:

My dad (who lives out of state) is having surgery and needs help.
My boyfriend surprised me with short-notice plane tickets somewhere.
Best friend's doing a shotgun wedding.
Wait until right before and say someone died.

When it comes to answering questions in interviews, I panic. I have qualifications in childcare but I dont know what kind of questions I'd be asked and how to answer them. I really need help and would like to find interview questions based on childcare.

Is this weird and what's your advice on the situation?

I am leaving a job in 3 weeks. I am moving and frankly I don't like working in this job. However the owner of the company will not let me leave. He offered me a manager's position and I told him I would take it IF it was possible. I don't drive and the store was located 20 miles from my new apartment. I found out it would take me 3.5 hours to commute by bus/subway. I told him it wasn't going to work. He is insisting that it will and even volunteering people to teach me how to drive. He is now opening another store near my new apartment for the intent purpose of having me work for him. I have told him that I don't want the job and I will not be working for this company after the 23rd. He still will not listen and is trying everything in his power to get me to stay when I don't want to. I don't want to be a jerk and just leave but I'm starting to feel that this is my only option.
