Previously, I worked for a company for over 7 years and resigned because of a dispute with management. I am now applying to a fortune 500 company that is, of course, requesting for a reference, which I am sure will be horrible. Does anyone have any advise on what I can do to counteract this?

I have worked at a small grocery store for the past two years. Though it isn't a bad job I am sick of it and do not make much money. I have the opportunity to move on to bigger and better things by quitting and I am sure I want to give notice. My issue is- I don't know how to say it. I am willing to work until they find someone else to replace me and I will train them. This is a very family oriented business and I am just very nervous about what to say. Any suggestions would really help. And, writing a letter of resignation really isn't an option.

After more than 6 yrs and numerous requests, my employer has at last given me a "Contract of Employment" & a request for "Enhanced Disclosure". Why would they NOW be bothering to do this? I always knew both were necessary in my type of employment, but is the law being tightened in some way? They've never listened to me before!

I live in Minnesota...19 and work at Truth Hardware, as of now. Would it be wise to join a union? I am talking to a few employees they are saying it is a great idea, of course, they are in it. Would it really hurt to join one? Why not?

OK, 13 years with the same company, and yesterday myself and 2 other people were fired. Cutting back, eliminating jobs was the excuse. I had the most seniority in the office, and yet i was not offered another position, other people with less time are still there working. My husband said it was a money issue - maybe I am the highest paid hourly worker there. Is this fair? How can they do this? I actually LIKED my job

I have a college education, even some graduate work, but not a lot of real world experience doing finances (except my own.) I'm pretty sure I could get a tax season job at H&R Block or something like that, or a job as a bank teller. I just want to get a job in the financial industry!!

My ex-boyfriend and I have recently broke up. He said he needed his space because I was becoming clingy. At the time, I was going through alot of situations for that past month. With almost getting evicted that week, being on medication which stopped my menstrual flow for 6 months and it chose that same week to come. My body was week and filled with anxiety from worries. I didn't know where I would live, what to do with my furniture, cramping. The job I had was an agency placing me on assignments that always let me go when the person would come back to work. I would go days up to a week without work, thereforth, incapable of paying my rent on time. He walked out on me because I wanted him in my presence too often. Saying he needed his space. After 3 weeks of talking to him over the phone, still needing his attention, he finally called it off. He said he wanted to see other people but we could still be friends. I think he only said that because he didn't want to feel bad about it.

I was laid off from my job in California. I have been told that in California, if a business has more than 75 employees they are required to give you 60 days notice, pay and benefits if they are laying you off as opposed to firing you. Does anyone know anything about any of this???

I am computer programmer and hanged on single project for about 8 months. I won’t be able to promote to take the position of my manager who left the company because of personal reasons and issues he has in the company. Similar to this project was never done before in the company history and no one can continue the job I am doing. It is because every one who wanted to take over my source code at least takes 1 month to understand each part of it. So they are too dependant on me. The customer always reports his satisfaction of my job to Top managers. The manager replaced is fully incompetent and to me will lead the company to closure. I brought this manager to company as my employee actually he was living in my neighborhood they never even taken my idea into consideration before completion of the project. My thought always fluctuates so that I cannot concentrate well. Is it my problem or it is the problem of company mismanagement?

Why is someone who comes into work at 10am and leaves at 7pm looked upon more favorably than someone who comes in at 7am and leaves at 4pm? They both work the same hours but the person who leaves at 4 gets commented on how they are "leaving already?".
