I am pending an application with Border Patrol. I have completed all the phases except for the investigation (pending-case is in their offices). I have interviewed with investigators in July. I have periodically checked my status on the CASS system and for 5 months it has read "investigation pending-case is in their office"

I am an intelligent, driven, caring individual who wants nothing more than to earn a living by working for the benefit of Africa - be it the economies, the human rights crises, health care, education, any arena. I have a Master's Degree in African Studies with a concentration in African Politics. I hear all the time about how agencies and organizations which do the sort of work I'd like to do are practically starving for help, yet when I apply for even entry level or administrative positions I get no word back whatsoever. What is the problem? How am I wrongly going about my quest? If the problem is that I am young and inexperienced despite my education, my foreign language skills, and my experience living abroad, what is a good way for me to gain this experience? Please give me some suggestions.

I am trying to get a job in the health-care field, in my area of specialty. (OK, in 1 of my specialties!) I have the degree and the training... THE QUESTIONS ARE:

How far back do you go on a resume? i.e. 5 yrs?

What about a cover letter? Is this important?

Is it OK to send a follow up letter after 2-3 days from submitting your application and/or resume?

I want to be aggressive, I want them to know that I am serious about working for them and I want to do a great job for them.

any advice would be great! PLEASE

I'm developing several resumes based on the position I'm applying for and one of them lays out smoother as a functional format than a chronological one.

Are functional resumes EVER appropriate in your experience?

I just changed jobs in Nov. I hate my new job and wish I had stayed at my former job. What do potential employers think about changing jobs after such a short time? Do I need to just grit my teeth and stick it out for a year or so? I can't stand my boss, and my new company is not living up to the promises they made me during the interviewing process. Thanks for any help.
