having a disabled wife and an infant child, i would really like to be able to spend more time taking care of them than running off to a dead end job every single day.

If you want to learn how to work from home with the Internet then you should start out with affiliate programs that way you can still have your day job and start out slow with your part-time business (not a job). It will take some time to build it but it will be worth it. If you work hard and stay with it you could be staying at home in about a year or two. People think that is a long time but if you think about it really isn't. How many years have you been getting up with an alarm clock to go to work? SFI is a good one to look into.
