Honestly, advertising is primarily dependent on your communication skills and these are NOT evident from your posting. You need to show care with your writing. . . use the spell checker. Don't abbreviate or use funky characters or emoticons for serious communication. Sorry, but I have to point this out. . . particularly in you are interested in a career in advertising.

If you want to study for a career in advertising and you are not approaching it from an "artistic" angle, i.e. graphic artist etc., then look to degrees in English, writing, or, "communications". You'll want to be familiar with the various media used in the advertising and marketing fields. Take general business and marketing classes as well but count on getting most of that experience in the field.

The main thing is to write and speak well. When you prepare a resume for a job or attend and interview you must pay close attention to spelling, pronunciation and all the other little things that go into proper communication.

As for colleges, almost any college will be fine for studying the general skills necessary for a career in advertising though there are some that specialize in the field. Schools like Emerson, in Boston, specialize in all forms of media, communication and art. Check out the Princeton review online or collegeboard.com for help locating schools. There are also many specialized guides for all kinds of schools. Check out your local library, Amazon or B&N (or even a local bookstore. . . if there are any) for guides you might find useful. Go to your college and career center or speak with your counselor. Also, find out if there are any small agencies in your area that you can intern with.

As for majors that pay well. . . there are no "majors" that pay well. There are jobs and careers that pay well but undergraduate majors rarely do more than give you a small leg up to an entry level position in the career you are looking for. The main thing is to get an education so that you have the fundamental skills, communication, organization, critical thinking, etc. that are necessary for success in the business world.

Think about the things you like to do and look at what careers make sue of those or similar skills and activities. Do you like to read, write, speak in public, paint, build things, solve complex problems and puzzles??? Get involved in activities that play to your strengths or help compensate for weaknesses.

If you pick a career or course of study based solely on the potential income to be gained, you're not likely to have much success. There are many reasons for that but among them are:

You may not have the passion required to really work hard and succeed at the upper levels of the career.

Careers and markets change so fast that it's hard to predict what jobs will be lucrative some years down the road. Better to build skills and flexibility to be able to adapt to changing situations.

Whatever you do, improve your language skills. If you want to work in an English work environment, improve your English. If it's Spanish or French or German or Mandarin Chinese or anything else, get your language skills down. They are a must for success in business anywhere.

Not really, unless you have something that is well known before you start. E.G. I am a Blue Cross agent. If I were to advertise, at least I don't have to explain who and what I am.
