Like the questions says: how important is your GPA when applying for jobs or to Grad school after you graduate? Obviously it's a big deal, but I've talked to many graduates who didn't even put their GPA on their resume and got jobs. What is a good GPA to have 3.0+ 3.5+. I realize a 4.0 is the best, but I'm asking more along the lines of what is competitive these days.

I've taken aptitude tests, personality tests, etc etc and still have no idea what I want to do with my life. I have a few general ideas, but nothing in the fields I've been recommended had piqued my interest. Is there someone (a professional) that can help me figure out what I should do for a living?

Last week, I started a temp-to-hire job for a seemingly great company. I am a new mom with an 8 month old and I wanted a job that was flexible. The job is not as flexible as I was lead to believe and the commute, which I knew would be bad, is actually horrible. (I am in the suburbs and the job is downtown, so I am looking at an hour plus commute usually, when I am use to having a 25 minute commute). I talked to my recruiter on Thursday, saying I need to withdraw, the commute is killing me and she suggested I work part-time if the client is amenable to that--that I should just give it more time to get use to the job. I feel I should withdraw now because as soon as I find a job that is closer, I would take it in a minute. I think it would be fairer to the client to leave now and not invest any more time in training me. I just don't want to look like a quitter to my recruiter. BTW, the job is not bad, I just have been too tired from the commute to really have my heart be in it.

What are the pros and cons/ups and downs of working in a union?

the situation is this - a couple living together as man and wife with one young child.

Wife has stayed home for most of the time to care for and bring up child. She has had part-time jobs while child is a school.

Man is made redundant so wife moves from part time job to full time work, but has since found that she is having a hard time adapting to working 48 - 60 hours per week (plus travel), and has now found that if she was also unemployed they would be better off financially if she claimed benefits. This goes against wife's pincipals, but misses having time with her family greatly . (wife has only been working full time for 5 weeks)

Can anyone advise what she should do - if she gave up work now would she be eligible for benefits or not?

I love my job, it's easy, well paid, and I like most of the ppl I work with.
I've been offered a promotion, which means I will get a company car, regular pay, etc...
I will also be responsible for each job I run, and the 60-200 ppl employed there, dealing with ppl I don't know in a role I am new to, and I don't know if I'm up to it.
I know the job inside out, but I'm not a ppl person, I don't think I'm diplomatic enough.
Advise?

I am 30 years old and ready for a career change. I have a masters in chemistry , have experience in both the lab and the classroom, and I am very proficient with technology. I am just ready to turn it all upside down for a career change. It is scary and exciting.
So of course I turned to the internet. Many sites seem to be crowded with what seems to be internet profiteering schemes. I was hoping to find some hidden gems or good success stories.

A customer grabbed my arm, threw me against the register and tried to kiss me. I told my manager and he said to just not talk to him. I then called the other manager and he said we would save the tape and if he tried it again we would call the police. I talked to a police officer and he said the guy did nothing illigal. Is this true? I don't feel safe anymore. Should I quit? What should I do?
