You manager needs to look for a new job. His attitude toward what happened is unacceptable. Let's see how he feels when someone forces him up against the cash register against his will. The cop is also wrong, in my opinion. This is clearly in appropriate behavior that, at a minimum, constitutes an assault and battery--battery being the unlawful touching of another. It is at least a civil violation and may be criminal too. Although there was only an attempt to kiss you, it might still constitute sexual battery. Also, you need not rely on your manager to pursue this matter. Although you are an employee, your personal rights have been violated. That means you can personally pursue the matter with the police. Your problem is that the police are not taking the matter seriously. If you feel strongly about it your can go to the police station yourself with the tape and make formal complaint. Ask for a different cop. It might be difficult to identify the person with just the tape though. Did the customer buy anything with a credit card that you could use to identify him? Is he a regular customer? As for quitting, that sounds like it might be unnecessary, but that is up to you. Not to minimize what happened, but it does not sound like you were in danger of physical harm. It seems a shame to quit your job because of some jerk.
By the way, its probably not "sexual harassment" because the harassment came from a customer, not a co-worker or vendor of the company. If your manager did it, that would probably be sexual harassment.

Yes, it is abuse. Your manager is an idiot ! If there is a next time, and I hope there isn't, and he trys to lay a hand on you, stop and call the police right then and there. Have his name handy as well as any other info on him. You may have to get a restraining order against him. He won't be able to come within 500 feet of you then. And if he should anyhow, then call the police again and they will put him in jail for violating it.

I think your should talk to a lawyer about a lawsuit against your employer - for the creep that harrassed you...a restraining order would be good. However, your employer should take the responsability for the safety of not only you, but all other employees, and they are clearly not. Talk to someone in the HR derpartment of your company, I'm sure they will give it the importance that it deserves.

The harasser compounded two types of abuse: Physical abuse, and sexual harassment.
Your boss wanted to avoid making a scene, and have to fill out mountains of paperwork (that's what this does). It also brings controversy to your store.
If everything you say is true, and there is proof that can be attained, you have a lawsuit on your hands.

Anyone who touches you without permission is committing assault, and in this case there is a strong element of sexual harrassment too. Police officers define themselves as being assaulted for things like being pulled or spat on, and this is much worse.
And it is indeed absue, as is any unwanted sexual attention which one person inflicts upon another.

that's not abuse, it's sexual assault, and if the officer you spoke to won't do anything about it call the shift commander,or chief of police, if they refuse to take action, go to your local court house, and ask to speak to a judge. if the judge refuses to help you (like maybe this customer has a lot of local influence) call your states attorney general...good luck and stay safe

It's definitely some sort of harrassement. Don't know exactly what you can do about it, since he didn't hurt you. Maybe not serve him when he comes in.
Make everyone around you at work aware of what he did. That way they'll be paying more attention to what is going on when he returns.
