I want to resign tomorrow. If I give two weeks notice, does it mean my last day will be December 29? Or should I work January 3 and 4 to compensate for Christmas day and boxing day where I will be on holiday?

I'm in the same boat actually. I am resigning from my position tomorrow Dec. 18th and my last day has to be Dec. 29th because my new position begins on Jan 2nd. Although not ideal, technically thats 2 weeks. Remember, although you don't want to burn any bridges, you are leaving and you shouldn't feel obligated to work longer to "compensate" any lost time. Do what you have to do, and start the new year right! Good luck in your new position!

Its up to you. If you want to get paid for the holidays, that fine, but you don't need to feel obligated to have your two week notice be equivalent to 10 working days.

In the US, most people are employed "at will", which means your employment can be terminated at your employers discretion (as long as it was not a discriminatory act) and, likewise, you can quit your job at your own discretion.

I know many people who have given less than "2 weeks" notice and there were no negative consequences for them.

Always stick around at least until you receive a Christmas bonus... and working to January 4 is probably a good idea... good luck.
