This is a small company (only 5 of us including the CEO). In his defense, he has many good moments but when he blows up, he gets abusive. What’s worse is that the CEO is 10x worse but rarely goes off on me but I’ve witnessed him going off on a direct report. So, going above my boss is out of the question and there is no HR here. This is a very manly group and I don’t want to come across as a wuss but….

My spouse has to move every 3 - 6 months for work as a travelling RN. We get free housing and it's very fun to see different places. The only problem is that I have to try to find a new job constantly. I want an actual career where I don't have to start from scratch every time we move. Any ideas? By the way, I have a BA & a strong sales background, but am looking for any options.

I started a new job on November 15. It's more than a month later and I have yet to receive a paycheck. We get paid biweekly. My boss comes to me earlier this week and tells me she forgot to send in my new hire paperwork to our corporate office for processing. For an entire month she has held on to my w-4, application, direct deposit info.etc. I was supposed to be eligible for benefits as of Jan 1 but due to the fact she never sent my paperwork in I have not been given a chance to pick what benefits I want and the corporate office doesn't even have my social security number on file. Basically I have been working for them for free for the last month which burns me up. My boss has the careless attitude and doesn't seem to care whether this is rectified in a timely manner. As of right now I am sitting on $2600 worth of bills that need to be paid. I am financially strapped right now and my employer could care less. I want to contact the labor dept but I don't want to risk getting fired.

My husband has a job, and right now I'm trying to get out of the home and into the business world. While this is more difficult than I orginially figured, I have one question:

How do I work with benefits?

Obviously we already have insurence with my husband's work. How do I work around/with those?

I am so confused with all of this!

I overheard my boss interviewing a prospective employee. The lady asked her if she offered compensation for travel and then my boss said maybe they could work something out and since they knew I could hear them ( they were in the hallway) they started wispering. I don't get compensation for travel and this girl would be my partner on the job and drive to the same places I drive to. What should I do, let it go??? or try to find out what she might be getting??

We've been working as a staff on vision/purpose for months now. Last week, without any notice, he took all the male staff members offsite to continue the work leaving 2 female employees completely unaware of their meeting. We feel hurt and disrepected. What would be the best (and professional) way to express this so it doesn't happen again?

I feel like crap, but my work won't let me stay or go home. This is the second time this has happened. I work at a small business, I do most of the office work and the owner does some office work, some field work, and a lot of no work. I tried to call in sick about a month ago, I said "Hi, I'm not feeling very good this morning, would it be okay if I didn't come in today?" he replied with "No...but you can come in at noon." I thought maybe he was going to be busy, but when I got to work he just played all day! Today, I came to work and finished everything I had to do. I asked him if he had anything else, he said no, so I asked if I could go home early. He said no because he and his wife are going to lunch and shopping. The office phone is a cell phone, but he didn't want to take it and be disturbed. What do you suggest I do about this? Is there anything to do? Thanks!

I have been with my employer for 8 years, its a small business so its a lot like family. However, my boss's wife just came back into the office 2 years ago. I am (was) the office manager/supervisor. As you can imagine she can't stand it that i know the answer to almost everything that goes on, & that i hardly ever make mistakes, & when she does they are huge and blow up. She is a micro manager thats slowly taking over her husbands business. They wonder why our sales are down. She constantly picks on us with the way we do things & trying to change them, & then after a couple months when they aren't working she goes back to the way we were doing them before she came. I am totally unhappy here. I am 27 and work in the insurance biz, I have both my licenses I could go anywhere & probably make more money, but i don't have a degree i have 8 years of experience. I am comfortable with my knowledge, yes i would like to make more money but i mainly want to be able to start a family next year
