Worked at my job for 12 years and my boss wants to take our Paid Time Off Away! He states that we abuse it. We get 216 hours, if you worked more than five years here. In the policy manuel it states that we get this, but it also states that he as the right to change. Is there a law that states he has to give us Paid Time Off? Or does he have the right not to offer! Its a Family Business.

What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happend to you at work??

The most embarrasing thing for me was at my old job where I worked at the front desk of a luxury hotel and I was trying on uniforms and I found one that fit me. Unfortunately I didn't realize the pants had a hole in them...in the butt region no less. So I walked out into the lobby and people were looking at me and snickering till finally a coworker came up to me and whispered.."You have a hole in your pants and you are definately wearing a thong" My face turned bright red and I quickly ran to the uniform room...oh boy what a day..

Lets see your stories!! Best one gets 10 points

I worked for them for 6 weeks and according to what they told me I was doing a good job. They kept making excuses for why I wasn't getting a paycheck from them. Last night I was supposed to get a direct deposit as I was 2 weeks ago. I asked my boss in email and cc: the accountant why I haven't been paid anything at all after 6 weeks. He said in another week I'd get paid. I wrote back very politely that I had been there for 6 weeks, received no pay yet, and on top of that I have loaned the company money when they sent me to buy computer memory and told me to pay and expense it, so for my 6 weeks of effort I am -$250 right now. The accountant complained to the owner that I was asking for my money and he was having a bad day or whatever and said I'm fired. I passed up some other good opportunities to take this job.

I live in WI which is an employment at will state, but aren't I entitled to some sort of compensation beyond whatever I should have gotted paid for the hours I worked?

Would that be considered as having experience and being elligable for employement? I've only recently immigrated to this country, three months to be presice. Whereever I apply, they keep asking for experience, working in this country which I dont have because nobody wants to hire me, for lack of experience. Then how am I supposed to get experience if they dont hire me? This sucks!

I've been in the US for 7 years, I still don't understand why American like to give tips for almost anything. For example, go to a restaurant, customers need to pay their dishes + taxes + tips. It's crazy. The restaurant should pay the waiter to serve customers. Why customers need to pay extra for it? Someone may say waiter earns a little; however, it's not true. A full time waiter can earn more than $3000 a month. The waiter just needs to bring dishes and asks how you feel whatever. Many people pay tips in cash, so they don't even need to pay taxes for the tips. Why people want to go to colleges? Want to make money just find a waiter job. Bartenders can make even more.

What do you think about it?

Does it really pay off? I am a 45yr old female, happily married but with no job at the moment. I am getting into a rut and starting to feel really low. I need contact with people and am a good listener so I do class myself as a peoples person.
I have learned that it could lead to maybe something permanent, can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with this?
