I got a new job 6 weeks ago... I worked for 2 weeks, was off for 2 weeks, and then worked the next 2 weeks. I filed for unemployment for the week I wasn't working. My boss got something from the unemployment office stating that I had filed for one of the weeks I didn't work, and fired me for it. He said I should have known they would try to charge him for it and that I was fired. Also they never paid me for any of the time I worked there.

Can I sue them?

Pretend that you have received a phone call from a very angry customer, Mrs. Meaney. She is yelling and screaming because OCI's latest widget, which she purchased six months ago, has quit working right in the middle of a very important project. She insists that you take care of this matter at once. You, on the other hand, only began working for the company last month. Mrs. Meaney won't let you get a word in. She just keeps screaming about telling all her clients that OCI is the worst company in the world.
Think about how you would professionally handle this on the phone, then write a new script for this interaction, using the elements of good customer service techniques learned in this lesson. Include both Mrs. Meaney's part and your reaction.

I searched the VS site and couldn't find anything. But maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. Just asking so i could save some time, instead of having to go back and fill out another one. Thank

I think my boss and his assistant are having an affair. They seem to leave for "lunch" at the same time several times each week. One day there was an urgent situation here at the office and I had to call the assistant. She said, "I'll be there in 2 minutes, call the boss and let him know." When I called the boss, he already seemed to know what I was going to say (how?) and he said, "I'm 4 minutes away. I'll be right there." There are several hotels in the area...all within 10 minutes or less of our building. They both showed up within 2-3 minutes of each other. Before this incident another employee made a snide comment about them leaving the office together a few weeks ago. Now one of them leaves and the other leaves 5-10 minutes later. Turnover has been high. I wonder if this has anything to do with turnover. Have you ever worked in an office where the boss had an affair with an employee? How did it affect everyone else in the office?

I own a small workshop. Last Monday, I had to leave early and only the workers were at the workshop. They are 2 workers ,and very honest. I trust them very much.
They sold things with the amount of 250 pounds on Monday. When the time came to close up, one of them put the money in the drawer of the desk , and they closed the doors and left.
The next morning, I came and asked for the money, it was gone. They looked for it every where , but they couldn't find it.There was no sign for any break in or anything. As I said , they didn't steal it. But what I think has happened is that they left the place for 3 or 4 minutes, which they often do, and someone got the money from the drawer.I decided to split the amount. I would pay 100. The one who had the money would pay 100. The other one would pay 50.But this last one refused . So I said o.k but I told him that if he ever leaves the place again, I would fire him. He got so upset and left. U think I was right or wrong ?wt should I have done ?

I've been working for almost one year at a publishing company in charge of a new book. I was talked into writing AND editing the entire book without any help whatsoever, even doing thousands of small things for free. The manager promised me at the very beginning to make my title "Managing Editor" and to pay me a certain amount of money. After finishing all my work perfectly (according to everyone in the company) he created a personal problem with me and claimed I insulted him (which is NOT true) and now I've found out that after writing the entire book he won't mention my name at all (will put the name of one of his friends instead, someone who doesn't even work in the company) and refuses to give me my money! Unfirtutanely, I'm a freelancer so I don't have a contract; I only have all the files and some emails from him as proof of my work.

I feel so cheated and wronged I've been crying for a week. I've done my best and more for this company so why is this guy treating me like this?

I have been searching, with very little result, for a proper site where to find recent surveys and statistics re: average salaries in Ireland. The only near acurate one I found is the CSO. Still, this is not quite enough for me. Could anyone help?
(Being French, I might not have used the proper words -though I tried salary, earning, wages, income- I am sure good literate english speakers will do much better. Thanks in advance!)

I means working online away from head offices. For example, one lives in Singapore and works for a company in USA without requiring to visit the office which is based in US at all. All s/he needs is just a laptop with an internet connection to work and contact the head office. It sounds like a dream, doesn't it?

I heard there's someone who actually works that way and I'm quite interested in. But I don't know where I can apply for such that kind of jobs. Hope someone here could give me some ideas. I'd be so grateful! :>

I have been on medical leave from my employer since late July of this year, after having major surgery. Although I have kept my employer advised of the status of my disability (including submitting certifying paperwork), I had never heard one thing from my employer until I received a certified letter today, stating that I was now considered an "inactive" employee and no longer on the payroll. My medical benefits have ended as well. I was never advised by my employer that my job was in jeopardy, nor given any status on my FMLA, which was submitted before my leave began. Now, my ex-employer is stating my FMLA leave of absence began when I was still reporting to work every day and that I was advised of this. I was never given status on anything. Now, I'm sick AND out of a job. They will never "re-hire" me. I have contacted my state's Fair Employment dept (waiting for return call) and will be meeting with an employment law attorney. I'm devastated. Serious replies only please.
