My company intends to purchase one or two small jets. I want to know how we can hire pilots, whether we hire them full time or part time, and what rates they charge.

It really depends on what type of aircraft you will purchasing for you company. Here is a link to all different types of corporate aircraft: http://www.jets.com/Private_Jets.aspx Also you might want to look at this link http://www.aviationresearch.com/ it comes from AR/GUS, Aviation Research Group. You will see at the top of the page a link to the Operations Planning Guide. This guide explains all of the cost for operating a corporate type aircraft. You will see the average salaries for pilots on this report, as well as average insurance, maintenance, etc... There are many factors involved in purchasing and operating a corporate aircraft. Good luck!!!!!!

EVERYTHING at an airline is seniority based. It's not that a younger pilot couldn't handle these big jets - its that a pilots pay is based , in part, upon the number of passengers he is responsible for. Bigger planes = more passengers = more pay = more senior pilots bidding to fly them and consequently being 'awarded' the bid. It's basically that simple. When I say 'seniority' it doesn't necessarily mean 'older in age', it just means that person has more years of employment with that particular airline. If a 45-year-old pilot has been with the airline longer than a 55-year-old pilot, and an opening exists on the larger aircraft (for which both bid) the 45-year-old will be granted it if they both have equal ratings.
