I stopped drinking 9 mths. ago and though it's still early days I think I have a lot to offer others with similair problems. My counsellor even told me to go into it but she didnt know about my criminal record which is pretty bad but I am completely reformed. I have a feeling that I wouldnt be able to enter into this kind of work but there must be a way.Does anyone know?

There is always a way! This is America after all, assuming you are living in America. The land of reform and second chances. Even third and fourth ones. Many counselors are so great because they're able to reach others on levels that other people who hadn't gone thru the same experiences wouldn't understand. I think if you feel like that's what you wanna do, you should go for it!! Congratulations on cleaning up your life! Now help others do the same.

Congratulations on turning your existence round, and wanting to assist those who're dealing with a tricky time. i'm no longer in the united kingdom, yet i will throw my opinion accessible besides. :) If the attack occurred once you've been in contact with the medication (and it sounds like it would want to have) and that is the in straight forward words attack/battery/abusive-form prevalence, then i imagine it would want to be a logical end that the attack habit change into regarding a at the same time as in the drug scene. If it did not, you've been only a baby - 16 12 months olds do dumb issues, and in case you haven't finished something like that because, then for sure, it change into undesirable judgment (no longer a personality flaw) and a mistake that you made (and are prepared to admit to). so a approaches as your employment following the direction, earlier you signal up and spend the money, why no longer refer to fairly some the agencies that you may want to practice for employment to upon of completion of the direction? purely clarify your project, as you probably did right here, and ask what your likelihood is of being employed in case you complete the direction. That way, you are able to listen it without delay from the horse's mouth - and also you not in any respect recognize, they may well be prepared to provide you an internship at the same time as you learn, and it would finally end up as a job once you graduate! sturdy success and that i'm hoping the information I gave you facilitates!

I think you can enter the counseling profession with a criminal record. You just have to have people reference you that you truly are reformed. A bachelors degree or master's in counseling would help you get in to the profession. Start calling schools and programs see what they require. Don't give up. Good Luck.

yes you can. Alot of counsellors are former offenders of one kind or another. If you really have turned your life around and want to help others and stop them making same mistake then it's people like you who can best relate to them. So go ahead and good luck. Just be honest. It's the only way.

I think it depends on the seriousness of your crimes, would you be a danger to others for instance?

I think alot of drink and drug councillors are former addicts etc.

I`d just be honest and upfront with your councillor and who knows?

It really depends how bad your criminal record is...if its major..like rape...pedophile ..armed robbery drugs that sort of thing I would think it unlikely...your councilor will be able to check for you...
