Job and pay comes from one and only source: Performance.
If I feel that I am under paid, I give more than 100% at work and see if I am getting any appraisal. If not, I pat myself to say I am paid at par with the industry standards.
On the other hand, I also discuss my friend's upon what are the scales of pay | trends right now in the industry. Networking on these modes does give me a heads-up...

Teacher-I don't think we are paid what we are worth. We start the learning process that leads to all the high paying jobs. Not many teachers leave right after school, I have been know to stay until 9 or 10 at night (I know some that stay later). We take work home and we are always trying to think of something new and different. In a lot of professions, you don't have to deal with what teachers do. If your employees misbehave, don't work or don't want to, they get fired (we can't fire the kids). The parents are a whole other issue--most professions would not deal with these people either. What other profession has their boss watch them for about 45 minutes on one day and base their evaluation on it. No chance for a bonus. What keeps us going is the kids...

I Don't work and get VA Non-Service Related Disability until Feb then I start getting SSI + 20% Disability for VA. It is sufficient but
I wish they would give me more food stamps becuse I have a hard time spending real money on food.

Given my level of experience, I'd say yes, my pay rate is fair.
